Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Jonas B on Jul 27, 2022 14:41:56 GMT 1, There’ll be so many people looking to sell their physicals it will be a great time to pick one up. I reckon if you wafted £5k around someone would take it for a quick deal. NFTs could become very valuable or maybe they’ll be worth nothing at all.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by RoboJ on Jul 27, 2022 16:53:25 GMT 1, Hirst has gone all nft. He can afford. If you take his 1000 nfts out of the numbers you have 5149 physical and 3851 nfts. That’s a lot more than I expected but still people see the value in physical over a digital representation.

If the experiment had ended at this point and it were simply a choice as you've described (physical versus NFT in perpetuity) then I'd agree. The attraction of the NFT for many is that Hirst seems to be intimating that it (the NFT) will act as some form of 'Currency' going forward. Most of us that held the NFT are, I suspect, thinking about what form this might take and gambling that the resultant benefit might outweigh that of a small original of which there are 5149 slightly different versions. It may or it may not - and to be honest, I don't think DH knows either... he seems to be making it up as he goes along - but for a $2k sunk cost outlay and being lucky enough to own a couple of DH pieces already (not originals, I grant you) I decided that this risk is one I'd like to take. So I held as an NFT and am relaxed about the future... it will be what it will be. Genuinely happy for those that wanted and swapped for a physical artwork but, as yet, there's no indication that the physical has more value than the digital in this instance. That will only come when we know what the end game for the digital is.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by wave on Jul 27, 2022 18:03:24 GMT 1, I never really saw it like that.....nft or physical....it's all currency...(cash or card if you like).....hence the design of the hologram etc on the paper versions. I see the gamble less about utility in this case (as heni has distributed roles for both) but more about a gamble on the future of nft versus traditional value. Just my opinion....I know some are hoping they will receive a veils or cb for demonstrating loyalty.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Londown 01 on Jul 27, 2022 18:55:49 GMT 1, I wasn't in on this one because it's way out of my league. But two things surprised me:
That there wasn't movement in price (up or down) in the days leading up to the deadline. And, that there wasn't much going on in this thread.

I'm inclined to agree, a bit of a damp squib if truth be told. Despite the bs rhetoric it's clear that NFTs , at this point, don't really work as art in their own right. A digital image just doesn't do it. As a project vaguely interesting but never really got going and the narrative of introducing art collectors to digital forms is interesting but the conclusion is that pixels of different coloured light is too intangible as an art form.

Do you expect free gifts when you purchase physical art? If not, why do you assume free gifts when you purchase an NFT? It almost seems like NFT owners in this thread feel entitled to freebies now. If the whole idea behind the currency is that the NFT entitles you to gifts, isn't that just an arbitrary gimmick? At what point does the art have to stand on its own? Isn't that what all art should do? And if you have to offer people gifts to keep an NFT, what does that say about your confidence in the NFT to begin with?

But this is what most NFT projects offer, utility and a roadmap. In most cases utility is just "free stuff" like airdrops or merch. It helps keep the communities happy and the be all and end all of an NFT project is its community. The currency community is a pleasantly nice place to spend your time, some really good people in there. imo the only benefit of holding the currency NFT is for future benefits, and I'm sure there will be some and im gonna be kicking myself

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by jesustheba on Jul 27, 2022 23:03:10 GMT 1, Just look at Giza nft, no roadmap, utility and so far a failure, every nft project I am in has something, game, staking, airdrops etc it's what people expect from an nft project I look at it as a membership to potential studio visit, priority on future releases, airdrops, whatever, and that is what people are gambling on I guess

I get what you and European Bob are saying, and I am familiar with the concept of "utility". I'm just questioning where the art fits in.
I find it interesting that people were given a year to make a choice. But the choice was not between physical or digital art. It was between physical art and being in a club. Owning the NFT after the burn means you chose the club over the art, and are expecting typical club benefits.
I wonder how Damien Hirst, being an artist, feels about people choosing the NFT over the physical art. Does he think people should be rewarded for that? I guess we will find out.

He, himself - chose 1000 NFTs over 1000 of his own works. So, it's in his best interest to reward the community for believing in it. Thats the only way he'll continue to make money on the project.
I bought in, 100% convinced I would get the physical. In the end, I chose the NFT. Not for the art, couldn't care less about displaying a JPG. The more I read about the future of the NFT's as a utility and providing real world value, it was a gamble I was willing to take. As you mentioned, it's essentially a membership and with that comes perks.
I view it more as instant vs delayed gratification. Upon closing, on the currency page - it stated this is just the beginning (for those who held the NFT) "While the first phase of the project is now over, we look forward to having you on board for what’s to come."

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Schrödinger's Chat on Jul 28, 2022 10:11:14 GMT 1, A platform for selling the physical sounds good, however i imagine it's another way for Hirst to get a cut, just as he does on every NFT sale (in that sense the project is win, win, win for Hirst as long as they keep selling).
If your as rich as Croesus as he is and when you get a percentage of every sale its not really much of a gamble to keep the NFTs. He can just rattle of another edition and make his cheddar that way. Maybe i'm being a bit cynical.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Winter on Jul 28, 2022 11:23:22 GMT 1, Was mentioned by one of the officials on Discord. In terms of Hirst getting a cut it's not possible to sell anywhere without paying some kind of commission. Any of the auction houses will charge a fee and so will ebay for their services. Unless sold privately or on here it has to be factored in.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by Greyhound on Jul 29, 2022 7:27:26 GMT 1, Agreed that the market is still strong, but I'd say that there's almost 4k less than there could have been, so I'd be expecting the prices to potentially move up now.
There will surely be a short term dip as lots of people receive their physical in the next month and try to flip it, but supply will most likely dry up after that.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by robo on Aug 2, 2022 4:10:23 GMT 1, I’ve really enjoyed this project. I’ve kept both physical and NFT. Super excited to have the physical up on the wall as I think they’re lovely objects. Excited too to see the physical I “burnt” in the gallery show and on the bonfire. Long term I’m sure they’ll both have value as Damien Hirst artworks that are part of an historic art project.

Damien Hirst NFT "The Currency", by pr.yu on Aug 7, 2022 14:49:25 GMT 1, Exchanged for the physical at the very end. Waiting for it in the States. Ordered the frame as well, which is supposed to arrive this upcoming week via DHL. Any idea or thoughts on how long it might take to get the physical given the crush HENI folks are facing from the last minute dump of NFTs?

6237. Save my life
Beautiful example of a clean and well balanced currency! Has a perfect title for a physical, saved from being destroyed.

A good stretch cheaper than any other physicals that I’ve seen online.
