Definitely agree that prices are out of control and explode quickly. You can't trust prices today since everyone is out to maximize their profit. Galleries are just shameless. You have galleries out there at the Future Fair hiking up prices by 50% for paintings that were sitting unsold in the artist's last show a few months ago.
If a gallery receives a lot of emails expressing interest in someone, the prices jump immediately. If a gallery receives no interest, the prices jump immediately. The artworld is just a shameless disgusting place most of the time.

I learned of this artist and purchased because of an advisor from Hauser Wirth in mid 2020 - if you guys thought this was expensive wait til he gets his first solo with them. and of course u want everybody on ur side of the market, since u got in early n cheaplyโฆ. i get it, n he might get pumped, as iโve seen way worse artist hit prices thier cv nor placement history deservesโฆ. the work is โmehโ at best imo, nothing new and/or exciting about the art nor the artist here, again, imo, n what do i know? ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ

The nice thing about art is we can all like different stuff. Something about his work just speaks to me - I like the textures and symmetry, the shadow, and the way it feels naive. I guess I'm just uninformed, but I didn't know anything about him until Exhibition A posted about this print. Took my shot but missed out. Congrats to those who got one. |
