Agree it seems high mate..six months ago and anything would have been achievable. Saying that it's is a rare piece and a billionare will probably pick it up for the down stairs toilet ๐ I'll say ยฃ867k.

I think Banksy originals have still got a huge amount of growth and if I did own one I wouldnโt be looking to sell.
I think his print market has peaked.

I tend to agree that originals have a fair bit to run, especially Heavy Weaponry, Lenin on skates, PB's, Kids on Guns. Many of the edition canvases have not come up at auction for years. While we have seen Kate Moss, CYW, GWB, Nolas and Liitas sell in the ยฃ200-500k range. So I expect those canvases will get corrected.
I'd much rather have any edition canvas over a CYW neon print etc. We shall see.

I tend to think that most of the less sought after prints have peaked, I think GWB u/s and signed will strengthen on the back of the "Love is in the Bin" auction this week and I'm not surprised people have been trying to buy before the auction to have stock to sell after the hammer goes down. LIITB is the most famous Banksy painting he has made so far, and the sky's the limit for that painting this week. Most people who bought in the last year or two probably aren't short of money and will ride it out or just enjoy owning a Banksy. We have had all the calamities you speak of happen in the last couple of years, precious metals haven't done nothing yet art has gone through the roof. |
