Once inside I asked the woman in charge if there were any posters and I was told no a few different times. Since I'd seen them I assumed they were just for early preview or VIP people and was a bit disappointed. Then as we were about to leave I saw her handing them out at the exit to everyone leaving and saying Invader wanted to thank his fans. We made sure to leave then to get one. No idea why she was initially telling me there weren't any. Perhaps she wanted to surprise us, or changed her mind because I kept asking her. A โpresent for the fansโ two hours later? It sounds like a massive bs to me. Probably when people started leaving disappointed they realised that they needed something โextraโ? As I said, it all looked like it was set up in a hurry.. Hopefully Iโll get one next weekโฆ DTLA is a good hour from where I liveโฆ

I especially like how they laid the print on top of an iPhone to give it that magical glow/illumination.

Been thinking about the POI's too. He's done a few tiled versions of them in Paris and I really liked the big one in Ljubljana. This show could have been so much better, just needed a bit more thought. Invader should have invaded his 40th city, make 40 versions of the POI and hide 40 of them in 40 cities, making it interactive worldwide. Doesn't have to be bronzes of course. Then do a show where there's 40 POI's accompanied by other works from those 40 cities, take the installation from Musee en Herbe with the map and pictures and a good bunch of Aliases. Epic show.

I even spoke to someone the other day and although they couldnโt actually help at least they replied. I get a lot of galleries who donโt even respond even when trying to buy work.
Even for the sunset print launch it was really well managed, they stamped everyoneโs hands and were ejecting the line jumpers, although first time Iโve ever been stood in the line for a print launch and the girl behind me showed me her gun, but I spose thatโs just America.

But I feel must reiterate to be clear to highlight my bias, that I have had no personal experience of OTI, Iโm merely discussing points I recall from this site and Instagram. I'm not sure, but I would imagine having a show during a pandemic is not the most ideal situation and Los Angeles is still under a heavy mask / vaccine mandate so it is definitely not back to normal times. Not sure if that had an affect on this show but I can't believe it wasn't a contributing factor.
It's funny to me how little people understand how a gallery works. Of course they are going to favor previous buyers. Are they suppose to turn around to someone that has spent thousands of dollars over the years in their gallery and say "sorry, you can't have one of these Invaders because some random we never have dealt with wants one"......not likely. Can it seem unfair and a bit unsavory, of course. But that's the game.
Ultimately, as with all galleries you have to develop a relationship, for better or worse. That takes time and it can be a long game. But I fail to see how screaming at gallery personnel because you didn't get a free poster is a good look.
I didn't scream at anyone, engaged with the gallery in good faith and managed to get a poster.
