Petworth is a lovely little Sussex town for a wander round and the surrounding countryside is beautiful too so plenty to do.

JO has an amazing collection and seeing his walking figures in the context of ancient Egyptian art for example really makes sense. It's so well laid out and has a wonderful mix of his personal artwork collection and pieces he has made himself. You get a real hands on insight in to the man himself and what drives/influences his artwork. It's genuinely fascinating to see direct correlations between what excites and interests him to the art work that he produces.
I have an elevated respect for an artist that I already admired.

Really interesting to see his influences (and what he collects). We had the whole place to ourselves yesterday, so I guess this is a good time of year to be visiting. If you're in the area then I highly recommend it!

There is also a quiz for the kids with a free hot chocolate in the cafe when they finish. Made my 6 year old sons day 😂

Perhaps the best overall exhibition I have ever been to.
My goodness but Opie has a wonderful personal collection, very eclectic and wonderfully explained.
His own works perfectly complimented the collection of other artists, and visa versa.
Totally recommended.
