Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by lee3 on Jan 28, 2009 17:06:32 GMT 1, >>>I fear the estimate is a touch high <<<
I thought the same until I showed it to my wife who adores that image but I'm not overwhelemed by it. She was going a little nuts for it and once I got to thinking, a 6 foot Banksy should be able to bring in $280k US (would have cost $400k US a mere 4 months ago with exchange rates). My prediction is that it will sell.
I was underwhelmed on the whole as usual with the evening and day offerings from PdP though i can respect that this is not the month of the big sales. I was surprised to see the evening sale devoid of any Warhol.
>>>one of the best Banksy's to come up for auction in a long time.<<<
You can have this one, I would have preferred the red Queen Vic or that green Laugh Now that both came up maybe 2 months ago.
>>>whats the most a pic has sold at before? <<<
Aside from the Hirst collaboration piece which brought in $1.8M for charity, Simple Intelligence Testing brought in $1.26M in February '08.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by andrewd on Jan 28, 2009 18:39:15 GMT 1, 2006 was of course when everything changed for Banksy. The 2005 ghetto had canvases ( Jack and Jill, Flower Chucker in editions of about 5 going for £7k ) Things then went really mad from the Barely Legal show in Sept 06.

I spoke with PdP and they said it was bought in @ 150k though keep in mind chandelier practices. That suggests the reserve was somewhere between 160 and 200. That particular image just doesn't move me (though it does my wife) but if someone really likes it, you may want to call and submit a low ball bid and see if you get hit.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by guest2 on Feb 23, 2009 17:27:42 GMT 1, A perfect auction for me and you Wiz huh? Some great art and some great modern design. Seen the Os gemeos Boxes? I believe they are painted inside too - a city scape or something. The pieced hang from the ceiling and you put your head in the box to view.
Need a big house for these!
