How do you justify that? What's the criterion to get up there? It's nonsensical to have many of them on the "urban art" forum; but some of these are just shit, with users showing NO INTEREST whatsoever on here, and hardly any artistic merit ...

Daniel Silk โข Urban Art Association , by Daniel Silk on Oct 6, 2024 5:10:13 GMT 1, What do you think of this idea? It's very difficult to find ways to encourage positive change, and really make a difference to people's lives, and we feel a simple thing like a mobile phone can have the biggest positive impact on a childs life here.

Do you like the idea? Do you think it's something you would like to donate too?

Daniel Silk โข Urban Art Association , by Reader on Oct 6, 2024 9:14:14 GMT 1, Hey D, a great initiative, respect. A couple of ideas that may help. People usually donate to causes that they have some connection with or empathy for. I'd recommend reaching out to ex-pat Philipino communities overseas, there must be FB groups for example, where many have escaped the poverty and environment you describe, by doing exactly as you describe. Being exposed to other cultures and possibilities via the internet etc. I guess it used to be through รmerican movies...might be some sympathy amongst those grouops to help.
Another idea would be tie it to the subject "urban art", where part of the funds are used to, for example, fly out a stencil or urban artist to workshop in the local school along those themes. Provide art equipment as well as phones etc. The internet was and still is key to the explosion of interest in this culture, particularly the early "Stencil Revolution" website etc.
There's also the possibility for people to maybe donate their old phones. I'm sure there are thousands languishing in peoples drawers.
Just my initial thoughts.

Daniel Silk โข Urban Art Association , by Daniel Silk on Oct 6, 2024 11:22:13 GMT 1, Due to my health problems, I'm a bit limited in what I can do, in that I can't walk far, and being fit enough to go beyond our small village is rare, so for those reasons we were thinking to keep it local, at least to start with. Plus keeping everything as simple as possible. I think due to cyber security, I wouldn't recommend people donating older phones, plus as equipment gets older it becomes increasing difficult to update and hold charge. From our experience here most Filipino who are abroad attempt to help there family and communities in their own ways. As we are here on the ground, living closely within a remote community we can easily find those families who have been left behind, overlooked by local government schemes and who don't have family support from abroad.
