Damien Hirst H10 โข The Empresses, by LJCal on Feb 9, 2024 20:38:38 GMT 1, OK well youโre so clearly enlightened, my apologies. TBF I couldnโt give a fuck if sheโs Buddha reincarnate, sheโs full of shit like most lefty academic ideologues. Which includes a good amount of the art and artists you follow and collect and as far as I'm aware, the whole academic field of street art and graffiti studies. As the core values and ethics in middle class liberal centrism is heavily marked by hypocrisy, then I guess you can keep on keeping on. I buy the art because I like how it looks and it makes me money, most of the politics behind it is bollocks and I donโt buy into it at all.

As the core values and ethics in middle class liberal centrism is heavily marked by hypocrisy, then I guess you can keep on keeping on. Just a couple thoughts. Seems to me nothing quite defines capitalism so well as the art markets so saying that everyone here and the people we collect are/should be aligned with socialism/communist ideals feels disingenuous if not hypocritical. Government led redistribution of wealth has never and will never be a reliable way to lift up society and the welfare of the masses. I think most people are all for the private philanthropy discussed in the article. Don't cry for me Argentina. Where does it propose philanthropy? it proposes a wealth cap of โฌ10m and an ideal maximum wealth of โฌ1m (people living in Paris, London, Frankfurt, Geneva etc shouldnโt own their own home anymore?). I actually agree that the wealth gap is too wide but there are other ways to deal with this that donโt require governments to steal peoplesโ wealth and dish it out to win votes. The issue we have is the we donโt have true capitalism in the west itโs become crony capitalism which resembles more feudalism than anything else. There are fixes that donโt require us to adopt Marxist principles which will make a bad situation worse. Start by breaking up monopolies, heavily incentivising start ups and ruthlessly cutting out corruption in the private and public sector, and I agree education and childcare is money well spent and actually should wash its face or even create value down the line (one thing she got right).

Chuck Feeney, who made his money from a monopoly of duty-free shops at airports, have enjoyed nothing so much as giving all their money away. Mackenzie Scott, ex-wife of Jeff Bezos, has been shedding billions of her divorce settlement a year, on the basis that โshe is giving it back to [society] where it came fromโ.

Damien Hirst H10 โข The Empresses, by Grillocracy on Feb 9, 2024 22:25:35 GMT 1, They sold on eBay. Seller has 0 feedback though...
Hopefully everything went well for the buyer. I had contacted that seller a few times asking for any supporting materials beyond the stock photo he was using for them. A picture of the boxes, a look inside the box, or anything. Crickets...
I ended up playing it safe and used the money to buy another Hirst piece.

Strange that eBay says it was sold but to me it seems the set didnโt even sell as didnโt hit reserve
Buyer with no feedback I generally donโt touch

Anyway, despite the difference in opinion, I wish you happy weekend ๐ท Thanks - love the debate. Could not agree with you more about the benefit of taxation. There is a (not always so well defined) line in my mind with taxes between "wealth redistribution" and "income redistribution". I am usually against the former and for the later. I still believe that the distribution of taxes for society benefit (in my country the US) is horribly and inefficiently done by the govt. Wealth tax and the more hard line things proposed in the article are different than the typical taxes and more like a revolution.
I live in California - a state with many wealthy folks. Though most are focused on continuing to make money most are also focused on giving back. I do not see the politicians in the US as focused on solving the problems of the country right now. They seem to be the more selfish of the 2 groups.

Lads I'm going to help you out here, this is what sets are selling for over last few weeks. Ironically I offered ยฃ10k for one of the sets on this thread about a month ago, not unusual to see this happen over the last 12-18 months, but perhaps a lesson there for sellers riding the market down on these and other prints. In summary right now if you're looking to achieve more than ยฃ1500-1700 for these or ยฃ7,500-ยฃ8,000 for a set you're probably going to struggle, especially on here.
