Damien Hirst H10 • The Empresses, by Charlie Bronson on Feb 14, 2022 17:54:28 GMT 1, I don’t like the injection of all these nft/crypto bozos into our art world. They’re in it for one thing and one thing only, the commoditization of art. I know that’s been around forever, but this just feels lame af. It’s perfectly fine to have a passion for art as well as a knack for making money off of it, but this isn’t that. I’ve bought tons of art to flip, but in the end I never flip it, instead I keep it because I love art, not money. This whole thing, that being the injection of crypto people into art, just feels wrong from an art lover’s perspective. I feel like this thread is a microcosm and prime example of a larger issue that’s befalling the art world. Perhaps Heni in fact hasn’t done a good thing with the Currency and this release. Rant over.

I agree but what troubles me even more is the fact that Heni seems to be going out of its way to encourage people to think of art as a means of making money. I can forgive them for Hirst's The Currency because that was part of the concept, but they now seem to be going in that direction with everything. All other galleries are trying hard to deter flippers. Heni are actively and unashamedly encouraging them. Art has always been a way of making money.
Very little art is bought at >£1000 for just love of the art, of course there are exceptions, but as a rule I think we all buy it hoping when we need to sell we won't take too much of a hit on it or even break even or <swear word coming> profit.
I don't blame Heni and Hirst as they are a business and it appears they want to make as much money as possible as fast as they can.
They are using our greed to feed themselves.
No idea what will happen to this one, it has a 3 year run
Mine will be on my wall in a few months, and when i look at it, I will enjoy it, but I will enjoy it more if I can sell at cost or more when I need to

Damien Hirst H10 • The Empresses, by Acme Thunderer on Feb 14, 2022 18:58:38 GMT 1, Floor prices are now between $3,500 (on Heni) to $3,800 (on Opensea). Looks like these will be going for under cost shortly especially with fees and from those people who bought to flip on their credit cards. For anyone who did not buy, they should be able to get for around $3,000 shortly but not below that. After this short dip, they will then go back up. Anyone who bought to keep for a minimum of 1 year will have nothing to worry about.

We all like to think our art is valuable and worth more than what we paid for it. I just find it odd that Heni actively encourages flippers. I don't know of any other art gallery that does this. They all seem to state, one print per customer and state that you must not sell within the first 2 years of purchase or something like that. Artists also object to people buying their work and then selling it six months later. Heni, on the other hand, don't seem to give a damn.
I am guessing here, but i would imagine Heni would respect the relevant artists wishes on open, timed & limited editions.
Maybe it's not Heni? Perhaps it's Hirst?

I respectfully disagree. I think as a rule most people actually buy art because they like it and want to display it for a longer term. I think the flippers are the anomaly and the very prevalent chat about value on this forum (of which I include myself) is not representative for the wider art buying public. I know hundreds of people who buy art and hardly anyone who buys with selling in mind. That your buy sometimes gives you a windfall if you come to sell is of course a bonus.

I know hundreds of people who buy art and hardly anyone who buys with selling in mind. That your buy sometimes gives you a windfall if you come to sell is of course a bonus. I don't think I have bought anything art wise that I have sold within a couple of years. Most of the art I buy I do like, I have bought the occasional piece that I don't particularly like but bought due to liking the artist.
You know hundreds of people that buy art for over £1000 with no regard at all for who produced the art? Who have purchased just for the love of what they see? I would love to be in the position to spend that amount with no regards to resale.
I do collect other stuff though, black forest bears, furniture etc that I just have to have regardless, so yeah I understand.
I think this forum is quite bad for the soul, it seems to be about greed and I get sucked into it like others I would guess.
The fun of collecting is in the chase, trying to get the piece of art. I guess drops like this are a bit of a wake up call for me, the art itself is being tainted.
Anyhow off to the gym to get rid of my melancholy mood

1. Is the "Empresses" release the first with physical artworks and the option of an NFT deed? If not, where has it been done before?
2. How is the "Empresses" release ranking in terms of overall volume money wise: it must be one of the biggest print releases ever with about 50 Million Dollars (15.000x3.500 Dollars)?!

Does anyone know how many skull prints were released? Must be close to empresses. I know the 3D release was an edition of 5000 and there was many variations. I’m curious to know if there is a higher number of editions compared to the empresses release.

Money laundering is the process of turning (or cleaning) dirty money into legitimate funds. Whilst purposely losing money could be a bizarre way to try and avoid tax by writing off losses It certainly isn’t a method to launder money……according to my friend.

Why would they? They could do this with the JR project for a lot less outlay or even The currency which is an easier to manipulate market. If they haven’t done it there then I can’t see them doing it on these
