What motivation would someone have to put up a set for auction and crash the price? There’s a chance the vendor didn’t follow through with the sale but consider it was a live and open auction so anyone could have bid.

Unless it was the ghost of Liberace, I'd feel a bit sad for anyone who chose to hang this garish wallpaper at home — regardless of the price they paid.

Damien Hirst H10 • The Empresses, by LJCal on Feb 9, 2024 7:33:17 GMT 1, “give people genuinely equal opportunities, through affordable childcare, free high-quality education” this is about the only sentence that makes sense. The rest is loony Marxist drivel with some of the more extreme edges softened (for now). A lot of the wealth calculations for these mega rich evolve around heavily inflated market valuations of stocks as opposed to tangible wealth, if ever they had to fully liquidate the actual value would be far less in most cases.

It’s not that it’s not making sense, it is more likely that the message doesn’t suit you. Slight difference. Even when they'd fully liquidate the actual value it would still be in the extremes and therefore unnecessary. I’m sure you’re not a prof, profs don’t answer like yours.

Marxism tends to suit very few people, just replaces one elite with another.

Which includes a good amount of the art and artists you follow and collect and as far as I'm aware, the whole academic field of street art and graffiti studies. As the core values and ethics in middle class liberal centrism is heavily marked by hypocrisy, then I guess you can keep on keeping on.

Seems to me nothing quite defines capitalism so well as the art markets so saying that everyone here and the people we collect are/should be aligned with socialism/communist ideals feels disingenuous if not hypocritical.
Government led redistribution of wealth has never and will never be a reliable way to lift up society and the welfare of the masses. I think most people are all for the private philanthropy discussed in the article.
Don't cry for me Argentina.
