Jake & Dinos Chapman ๐ฌ๐ง Chapman Brothers, by moron on Dec 20, 2017 17:45:09 GMT 1, what a crock of _s**t for 350 quid. What was it Banksy said about morons? If Bambi or anyone else came up with this they would be royally panned by all on here who profess great knowledge about what constitutes art.
Glitter smileys have been done a hundred times before and available on the interwebelectricshopthingywhichsellseverything for $2.75 for three.

I believe that it has to be considered not in isolation, but in the context of their other work, where the same image is used on banners and arm bands. I do accept that much (perhaps most) of their work is either loved or hated by the onlooker, though.

Their nazi soldier sculptures looked like the film props from An American Werewolf in London movie. They are like a sort of fairground house of horrors mixed with Roman Polanskis dark fantasies at times.
I don't get drawn into looking at everything an artist does when buying an artwork, although I understand for investors and collectors, they like to feel what the artists are saying. usually it turns out the artist is saying nothing and they make the same type of stuff because they know people buy the same type of stuff. they get know for something so keep on doing it for years.
and oh yes, how witty and clever and profound to put smiley face armbands on horror movie prop nazi soldiers instead of swastikas.
I still think this release is crap though, all it means to me is it's a smiley face done in glitter. There again I am a phillistine.

"I believe that it has to be considered not in isolation, but in the context of their other work" is exactly it, and it's not only about their other smiley face examples. This work by another artist would be unlikely to be interesting. A smiley face, and a slightly corrupted / naive one when you look in detail, follows on directly from the body of work of these artists.

Yes, but does that make it good? GG Allin, quite notorious and considered interestingly edgy by some, liked to take a sh*t on stage and throw it at the audience - doesn't mean he had talent as an artist, although some thought so.

Pretty sure all of their 'movie prop' soldiers are painstakingly produced bespoke. Their model work in the flesh is incredible if you get a chance to see it. Fair enough you don't like this print but I think for those who do it is very well priced. Where do you stand on Hirst spot pieces?

Trying to measure "good" art or "talent" is a completely meaningless exercise. There is no definitive measure of either. There is only what somebody thinks is good at some time. Sometimes a lot of people share that view at a particular time in history. Sometimes only one person has that view. Sometimes that person is the King of England.
You are completely welcome to your view that the artwork is no good of course and I have no wish to attempt to persuade you otherwise.

Etching, 300gsm Somerset Satin White, 43.18 x 58.42 cm / (17 x 23 in)
It is signed and an edition of 10. Apologies for poor lighting but its pissing down.
I have no idea what to ask for this as it was part of the Liberty Portfolio, its not my thing so make an offer if you like it as it will not be making the wall. Not looking to retire off the back of it..............
Thanks for looking . LD
