White Cube have offered me several pieces by artists I like without any large previous purchase history, and one item which I bought at a time when I had no purchase history. I would say, based on my experience, that they are one of the better top-tier galleries to deal with. Many of the others don’t even answer emails. Was that on the 'less' sort after artists though? Sending out VIP links just shuts the door on anyone new to HM's work.

I had been talking with their editions team for some time and cheekily asked, perhaps 4-5 months after the release, if there were any WCW available - really expecting to pay a premium or acquire as a secondary purchase essentially. After a few emails back and forth, they got me the last one in the edition (supposedly one or two customers had cancelled the orders before delivery or never paid the invoice), and at the launch price. I was/am far from a VIP - at that point I’d only bought 2 or 3 editions costing £1k to £2.5k each. I think White Cube is generally very good at embracing new customers, but like any gallery it can take a bit of time to build the relationship and prove to them that you are a genuine collector.

I disclosed my Knightsbridge flat address and they started sending me pdfs from upcoming shows.
