SHOREDITCH, EAST LONDON โ 1 April 2019
Great Eastern Street
Inflatable breast installation, one of apparently five in East London in different sizes and skin tones.
Installed by Elvie and Mother London on 31 March (Mother's Day in the UK) for a two-day period to promote #FreeTheFeed. The awareness campaign is intended to help destigmatise public breastfeeding and encourage more women to breastfeed and pump in everyday situations.
Other works in the photo below include:
- landmark 2010 piece by Stephen Powers / ESP0;
- painting by Amara Por Dios;
- pigeon by Ronzo (barely visible on one of the protruding ledges);
- mushroom by Christiaan Nagel; and
- spraypainted advertisement for Ben & Jerry's. I openly encourage anyone to dog or destroy this B&J advert.
Mural panels by Pref ("More"), Eine ("Than") and Gary Stranger ("Words") for Shannon Trust โ a registered charity that encourages and trains prisoners who can read to teach those who cannot. At any given time, the one-to-one mentorship programme has over 1000 mentors and 1000 learners.
Global Street Art deserves a nod for initiating and orchestrating the above Shannon Trust campaign. Happy to give credit where it's due, despite my loathing GSA's street-art-style advertisements for corporations โ even when executed well by artists I respect, and when the marketing is relatively subtle.
One such example would be this "Connectivity Matters" mural-advert for Colt, painted by Hunto and Mister Thoms on King John Court:

New Inn Broadway
Mural at the former site of the Theatre (1576โ1598, predecessor of the Globe) โ where Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is likely to have been first performed. The foundations of this purpose-built theatre were discovered in 2008 by experts from Museum of London Archeology.

Stencil painting with an Obey aesthetic, featuring a Guy Fawkes / Anonymous-like face. And Arabic or Persian text. I don't have a clue as to what it says.

Ben Rider paste-ups. Despite the excessive borrowing from BรST, nice Warhol reference on the Cyclops Mickeys, with the juxtaposition of positive and negative imagery.

It was red brick but it must have been rendered over and vhils created the piece. Shame it has to go looks amazing.
