'Come As You Are' - Harry McMorrow Debut Solo Show @ Big Yin, by Euan Roberts Art on Nov 7, 2022 12:17:18 GMT 1, Big Yin Gallery is pleased to present the debut solo exhibition from the fast-rising art star Harry McMorrow.
โCome As You Areโ presents an all-new body of work created in the artistโs signature hand-tufted tapestry approach, centered around the themes of 90sโ pop culture, childhood nostalgia and iconography from that influential era.
VIEW WORKS
Transcending the traditional, archaic and outdated views of textiles, Harryโs punchy, bright and eye- catching handmade rugs feature a host of imagery extracted from their youth. They have been vividly implanted into the collective consciousness of those who came of age during the 90sโ.
Harry McMorrow a non-binary artist was born in London in 1990 and grew up in Palm Springs, California and now lives and works in St Leonards-on-Sea.
โThe idea of rug making reminds me of queer community as each strand comes together to build something strong. Yarn in itself is a protest as part of my work- using a medium that was previously throughout history used for womens work, weaving, knitting etc. I use it now to go against the patriarchy- creating pieces that go into a white space, white cube, gallery. The idea of hanging a historically craft based piece on the walls of an institution is part of the process. โ โ Harry McMorrow

Big Yin is a art gallery whose ethos is supporting and championing the work created by minoritised and underrepresented artists. It is a proudly black-owned gallery, artist-led gallery from artist/owner Euan Roberts and partner Ruth Spencer.
Big Yin Gallery is both thrilled and honoured to be working with Harry McMorrow on their debut solo exhibition.
โHarry is an incredible artist and person, whoโs work we feel is urgently required in the times we live in. Simultaneously their work is nostalgic reminding us iconic pop culture from the 90sโ and at the same time incredibly progressive. As an non-binary artist using what is traditionally and historical seen as feminine media and radically re-contexulising it to challenge the gender binary and associated โnormsโ that need deconstructing. Their work is all fun as HELL.โ Euan Roberts
Now is the time to invest in this fast-rising talent!
The show runs until 26th November 2022 and all available works can be viewed and purchased online here or by contacting the gallery via mail@bigyingallery.com.
