Ai Weiwei Avant Art Releases 2023, by jvp2022 on Apr 22, 2023 10:18:27 GMT 1, If it helps the Avant arte case: Iโve never sold anything and am very happy I got the chance to buy one of the works. Also: there are quite a few of them and recession is around the corner, I would be surprised if you donโt get a chance to buy close to the primary price in the coming 12 months, either during the official release or otherwise.

Ai Weiwei Avant Art Releases 2023, by concrete jungle on Apr 22, 2023 11:42:03 GMT 1, To be fair, the show was sold out on the weekend and I certainly canโt get there during opening hours Mon-Fri nor can most people. Iโm sure Avant Arte can come up with a solution for this in the future because the forum flippers just bought everything once that link was available. The show wasnโt hard to get to - I bought 4 tickets for this weekend only last week. I think this is unfair criticism of Avant Arte who have done an amazing job with this release, released the works at the show for visitors, provided access via the web site, and been pro-active on this forum where many have collected works. Their helpful presence here might be a first for the release of a major artistโs works. Of course itโs disappointing for those who didnโt get what they wanted at this time, and demand was always going to outstrip supply, but at least there is still another drop coming. Iโd 100% echo this view. IMO Avant Arte have done an excellent job of getting these to collectors. Loads of info and feedback, clear links to buy via the Design Museum - of course there is a bit of the luck of the draw as with any release. I recently missed out on the latest batch of Grayson Perry Piggys - simply because I hadn t logged on here that day to catch up. Iโve been collecting art for over 20 years and thatโs pretty much my experience throughout - including the Banksy release years. Winners and Losers (Iโve generally been a loser!) but always nice to pick something up you really like. I for one will be holding on to my Weiwei purchase. The comments about flippers may apply to some, but youโd have to be pretty naive to think that isnโt the case on most releases these daysโฆ..

Ai Weiwei Avant Art Releases 2023, by Pawel on Apr 22, 2023 12:45:23 GMT 1, I'm with Bob here. Its not a critique of Avant Arte btw. It's very hard to have something like this organized that is bulletproof. People that visit the exhibition should have the priority. How to organize it, I'm not sure. Maybe to have someone making the orders for the visitors or check the location when making the order. Once the link and access code is public, it's out there and AA has no control over who buys these. And for this forum, this place is full of flippers, let's not pretend it's not.

Ai Weiwei Avant Art Releases 2023, by Londown 01 on Apr 22, 2023 14:04:46 GMT 1, Has anyone read the 2 year no resale agreement? Because there is also the following in there, which has not been mentioned/ discussed:
That if the owner choses to sell after the 2 years, they are obliged to contact Avant Arte first, as they hold a "preferential acquisition right".
What do you think? I do not remember having agreed to this, and would this apply to ANY sales in the future, no matter how far in the future?

Iโm not disagreeing with you, but as you say yourself hard to organise in a bulletproof way. Iโve been on this forum from the early days and one of the aspects that was positive was sharing of details of drops and releases. Back then ยฃยฃยฃ was not the main motivation of most - as rehearsed in previous posts, more about genuine collectors picking up art they liked - and discussing all the art related issues around that. Sadly with the advent (I suspect) of the rising Banksy market- and other artists that get mention on here that have seen exponential growth in value, there is a new breed of forum members who you rightly state have more of a focus on how much they can make rather then the art itself. If you look outside the microcosm of this forum, to be honest that has always been the way- I recommend watching The Price of Everything, or reading any of Don Thompsons books on the contemporary art market. Thatโs โflippingโ on an entirely different level!

It's not overturning but catapulting. Sometimes they don't understand the importance of what they have acquired... and they throw it away from them for a little ephemeral and fleeting 'glory'.
Sure... it's true... that everyone is free to do what they like.
There are also those who resell to be able to afford to collect other artists. ๐คทโโ๏ธ

Ai Weiwei Avant Art Releases 2023, by jeeves on Apr 23, 2023 18:19:38 GMT 1, Just want to echo the sentiments of some previous comments recognizing AAโs great efforts in making this release equitable in the sense of maximizing real collectorsโ chances of being able to acquire the works. I have tried countless times to land desireable pieces over the years via various different systems, whether itโs fastest finger/click, where bots inevitably prevail, or lotteries, where people can enter countless times, or friends just get hooked up and thereโs a feeling that not many real, non-connected collectors have a chance, this is the first time Iโve been able to actually buy something where demand will clearly massively outstrip supply. I feel very very lucky for this and I canโt wait to proudly display the vase in my place, having been a big AWW fan for many years since watching Never Sorry (I only have the Serpentine print so far). AAโs efforts have undoubtedly given many more people this fantastic feeling, which is far greater than what I imagine the feeling of landing something that you plan to flip for a profit would be, this is a great thing! So big thanks from another happy collector. Some others are clearly salty about not being lucky yet (so far at least, maybe you will on release!) but I feel any criticism, saying the pieces are just going into the hands of forum flippers, are completely unfair. Big up AA and keep up the good work!

Ai Weiwei Avant Art Releases 2023, by robo on Apr 23, 2023 20:20:55 GMT 1, Made it to the design museum show and what can I say - itโs an amazing show. Hereโs a giant marble toilet roll to prove it.
Seriously donโt miss this show if you can get there.
Also the Middle Finger in Black emerged as a favourite in the flesh. The lines are printed in gold leaf which has a fantastic texture. I think people will regret sleeping in this one, which was available until the very end of the presale.

Ai Weiwei Avant Art Releases 2023, by gatortooth on Apr 24, 2023 0:35:11 GMT 1, All of these look really great and I'm glad forum members got the chance! Those who missed out...there is still a chance on the release. Avant is tops with their communication and willingness to be on here to answer questions. What other galleries and releases are like this?
Answer: Few to none.
