Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by zoomrider on Apr 17, 2023 17:32:51 GMT 1, Surprised so many NFTs! $2000 buy in was not cheap and explicitly stated “no utility” so truly only buying the digital art.
But not surprisingly (in hindsight) the overall editions are low, especially the squares.
Whilst some may see this as “good” for those that purchased (“small edition” = $$$ will be the argument and maybe so)… I think it is actually more telling of peoples changing attitudes towards the Heni drops… people wising up to the marketing hype around their releases and the quick release schedules aimed at maximising revenues (won’t be long until the next!). I think people were also put off the lack of direct artist involvement (bar the signature) and the debatable quality of the digital prints on canvas. The price will have also put off many.
Just a general observation from me. I’ve enjoyed the spin generator and seen some great examples but it was a pass for me ultimately. Always pleased for those that got one, who love it and will get it up on the wall.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by robo on Apr 17, 2023 18:04:20 GMT 1, Interesting to see the big difference between the XL square and XL circle. (Which are the two most heavyweight artworks here.)
If I’d gone for it I would have purchased the XL circle which is now a 1 of 1.5k.
Hope everyone enjoys their pieces though - not as many in some formats as I’d expected!

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by Acme Thunderer on Apr 17, 2023 18:20:19 GMT 1, Interesting numbers announced.
I don’t feel like I missed out as I was like many who was 50/50 and decided at the end I would rather have something else.
Don’t think the people who bought the X-Large will be pleased so many bought the largest version, although they will say the whole edition is low and pretend they are happy.
The biggest surprise for me is the percentage who went for squares as I thought it would be much lower.
I genuinely hope those who bought one to keep are happy with their purchase(s) and I look forward to seeing them on display. 🙌

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by ab3 on Apr 17, 2023 18:20:20 GMT 1, If I had a boss I would've been sacked by now for pratting about with this generator. Still on the fence, I love the concept but do feel like I'm paying the price for a bag of fudge at a pick n mix and getting marshmallows and flying saucers instead. One thing I've noticed is the jump in size between S, M and L is 75% whereas L and XL is only 40%. So the large is the better buy for me. Whether XL proves to be better on secondary... who knows. Thoughts on edition size? My guesstimate. S: circle 2000 square 400 M: circle 1200, square 240 L: circle 800, square 160 XL: circle 600, square 120 I reckon you will be right with the total ratio between circle and square (5:1). I would be surprised if the total number is as low as 5,500 based on previous Hirst timed releases. If the Empresses had an edition of 15,000+ @ $3,500 (in Jan 2022) then I guess it has got to be 7,500+. I also think there might be slightly more XL than Large sold and similar numbers of Small and Medium. My guess will be a total of 8,000: Small - 2,000 circle / 300 square Medium - 2,000 circle / 300 square Large - 1,000 circle / 300 square X-Large - 1,300 circle / 300 square + 500 NFTs Will be interesting to see how markets have shifted and we know Heni will confirm the numbers sold fairly quickly after the sales have closed. So 5,108 physical artworks in the end. Thought it would be interesting to see how the predictions faired. Looks like fewer actual ones than we predicted.
Still glad I managed to get one, based it on my daughter's blue eye colours and continued till I got one that looked like an eye.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by its all about me on Apr 17, 2023 19:43:27 GMT 1, I'm surprised how low some of the edition sizes are. Even though I wasn't all that keen on them, I expected them to sell very well. I wonder if Hirst (or Heni) is disappointed.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by gus on Apr 17, 2023 20:31:06 GMT 1, Does there being more XL ones make it a bad gamble?
I don't really think so.
Personally went for the L, knowing (in hindsight) the XL would have the highest number, making my slightly smaller Original 1/1 Damien Hirst signatured computer generated circle thing perform far better on the secondary markets going on to sell for more than their big fat very common XL brothers.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by Wanchope on Apr 17, 2023 21:26:10 GMT 1, Ok I feel I have to say this ( I own a few heni hirst pieces, but said no to these and no to the empresses as I just don’t like them which I know is only a personal preference), but is over 5000 really a small number?? The prices weren’t cheap at all. Also I hear peeps say it’s a small amount for an original hirst, but is it really an original when it’s a print? I understand the currency as although there were loads with finite differences, but at least they were painted. Honestly would love to hear others’ replies ( clearly those who bought will say they are originals for obvious reasons)

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by topper on Apr 17, 2023 21:37:39 GMT 1, I went for the square as I thought there were already so many round spins out there. And some of the designs lend themselveves to the square format. Interesting how few people agreed with me!
Thing is, if you look at the Virtues, the most popular of them sold twice as many as the least popular. And everyone still goes for the more popular pieces so I'm not sure how that pans out. Still prefer the square though!

I understand the currency as although there were loads with finite differences, but at least they were painted. Honestly would love to hear others’ replies ( clearly those who bought will say they are originals for obvious reasons) My thoughts (ofc take with a grain of salt as I purchased one): - 5000 isn't a small number imo, to me it seems kind of large, and expect that since it was similar to a timed edition most of the demand would have been met for now - That being said I don't expect a huge amount of people intending to flip went in as it's a decent chunk of change and required some extra effort / input from buyer - Feels more 'personal' due the input from buyer, which also makes me think there will be less on the market (this being said, there is a 'big' supply, if there is demand it will find it) - I think most people that were on the fence and didn't buy it over thought it, and over thought their input versus the artists input - It's generative art, each is unique (unless you got both physical and NFT then they are the same but different - which I think there won't be many of and was possibly the smartest play here) - An original Hirst? If you take the definition of the word then yes, "the first authentic example of an artist's piece", I don't think it matters what the medium or procedure for it is. What is accepted often changes over time, and at the beginning of such changes is often met with questions and skepticism. An original 1/1 screen print? Is that a thing?
I'm primarily here to just buy stuff to put on my walls as I never had a home to do such and now I thankfully do. But I also understand that money is a big part of art and life and the forum and etc. I bought one because I think that I will be able to sell it for more later, with the hopes that I never need to.
My thesis was pretty much: - he is famous - it is his first 'generative' (arguable maybe but definitely first digitally generative?) release - generative art has been getting more attention in recent years - generative, digital, and muh blockchain art won't be going away - worst case overpriced frisbee for the dag

Think these will do well secondary given the low edition sizes, luckily enough people got put off. Congrats all those that bought.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by Wanchope on Apr 17, 2023 22:01:28 GMT 1, Decent reply Gus, can’t argue with much of that. I must admit I played around with it and had some fun, for me I couldn’t find one that I particularly liked for myself, but after a while I kept changing my mind as to which one I liked and then went with my gut which is always on the basis of if I don’t like it enough then don’t buy it. Happy for all those who did find one they liked and ready to hang which is always a good thing.

The low price made them a great buy versus his other higher priced editions, the generative aspect adds to the historical aspect in this case though.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by Pafori on Apr 18, 2023 2:51:36 GMT 1, I didn't buy because these felt more decorative than artistic expression.
Cool concept, lovely idea and for me, unaffecting canvases.
I imagine others felt similarly.
The many who bought them feel differently and I hope throughly enjoy them! 😊

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by conrado on Apr 18, 2023 5:54:21 GMT 1, Seems i missed it, but where was it stated that the NFT has no utility?
Surprised so many NFTs!

However, I do remember seeing this question being asked on the Heni Discord, and the mods stated there was definitely no utility.
It won’t stop people moaning afterwards thinking they should be entitled to free spin paintings every year for the rest of their life.
Seems i missed it, but where was it stated that the NFT has no utility? Surprised so many NFTs! Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by JW on Apr 18, 2023 8:21:10 GMT 1, Seems i missed it, but where was it stated that the NFT has no utility? In the FAQ:
Do The Beautiful Paintings NFTs offer any extra perks and utility?
The NFTs are digital artworks and, like the physical artworks, do not offer any additional utility other than being artworks in and of themselves.

The statement by Heni is technically not true as the utility of the physical artwork is its convenience yield.

Damien Hirst - The Beautiful Paintings, by Carl Cashman Art on Apr 18, 2023 13:10:07 GMT 1, Sold pretty well considering we are teetering on the next recession and people are probably hesitant to invest atm.
As for terminology, I wouldn't consider a digital print to be an original when the artist traditionally paints or makes sculptures. They are unique artworks, but certainly not originals.
Congrats to the buyers, kinda regret not getting a small tondo, but no doubt there will be another Hirst release of some kind before Xmas to jump on.

I regret not getting one purely as there's not many opportunities to "collaborate" with an artists HOWEVER I was grateful to still have the cash available for the Ai Weiwei's which excite me more.
