Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by Jules Leotard on Jul 6, 2023 23:23:50 GMT 1, Do you think he recreated his bedroom, or did he keep all the stuff from his actual bedroom? Because I can't decide what would be stranger. I still have my sheets, comforter, and pillow cases from that era. They are in great condition still because EVERYTHING was made better. They haven't faded. We use them for camping trips. I believe Banksy's mother very well may have had them stored quietly in a closet.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by Lroy on Jul 7, 2023 8:21:05 GMT 1, Do you think he recreated his bedroom, or did he keep all the stuff from his actual bedroom? Because I can't decide what would be stranger. The bedroom is a Freudian answer of all that we can imagine on Banksy. It's also a quick biography, very smart and important.
I think that it's a mix of all.. Since birth to being a teenager and a young adult still living at the familial home ( he was a art school student - souvenirs ) . It's also a retrospective of what " made him " and what he likes/likes, and we learn a lot about Banksy ( anyway nothing schocked me )..
There is the plush, military toys and planes when he was a kid ( he made modelism ?), the holy Bible to show that his parents were Catholics and that he has grown in this context ( he is supposed to have been in a catholic school no ? ) ..
The Specials ( I have been enough lucky to be in Londn when it was the ska ) show us his taste in music, and which period he was living in, and as all teens he nailed posters on the wall ( this Lp was an event too ! ) , and ska ( above all, the Specials ) were fighting against racism... The poster of the DJs and the Fanzine from John Nation could show us that he was later on, in the environment and soul of djs, of graffiti, that he was active in Bristol... He liked to make collages as all teens..
In fact in his bedroom there is the early stuff of his childhood but there is also what he likes ( and still deeply like ) in the present and for the future... The bag, the slippers, show us that he was a teen as a lot of us, with education, and respect to his family, in the middle class, that school bored him a little maybe, but well that it was an obligation.
And in the other side, that Banksy was a bit concerned by all the events and the Bristol and Uk stage ( postcards, newpapers extracts, vandals, grafftiti ) ... The flyers on the walls, Sex Pistols poster show us that Banksy is an activist - or close to their ideas - and that he always liked things and thoughts near Anarchy etc... ) . He lived in a period that we only have tapes to carry and to listen on a tape player or a hip hop boombox ( to determinate ) .. Ska, graffiti, hip-hop are amongst his passion.
In this bedroom we have the real past and what he ( still ) has in mind, and cherish : his toughts. We can read his bedroom as a book and hear the noise of the past ( movements, news, Woolworth bag - his first gym clothes ? ;-) -,
streets, as an ordinary and curious teenager crossing them with an apetite of knowledge and graffiti - spraycan hided in the bible ) just seeing it.
I read something here on the sheets in the bed, it means nothing, just again that he has had a nice and clean place where he lived, with his parents loving him ( and vice-versa ). I love this bedroom and I wish to make a siesta in it, no I won't it would be a sacrilege, this bedroom is the nativity scene of the baby jesus with an Ⓐ pacifier in the mouth... Or just a thumb, the same than years later, will press the cap of the spraycan and eject the tape...

Some thieves, or rather indiscreet people, would indeed be tempted to hide under their jacket, one of these souvenir objects!

Many thanks for your considered thoughts on the contents of the bedroom. Great to see the West Country related items.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by lukas01 on Jul 7, 2023 10:27:15 GMT 1, Do you think the signed panels (where there is also the signature of many forum members) could somehow become a Banksy work of art?... It would be fantastic if the signature of many passionate users of the exhibition... become a side dish in an indelible work over time. Imagine what it would be... to see the signature of our grandfather or relative in a Van Gogh painting!... Simply wonderful. Who knows... maybe Banksy will add something of his own... and those panels will go down in history along with everything else. We'll see what the ending will be.

Obviously I don't know Banksy personally... and I took the liberty of giving my opinion on the entire context represented. I believe the room is composed and made with original materials. I only raised the exception for the sheets. And I said that they shouldn't be original sheets... adding that maybe they don't even fit Banksy's taste. But not knowing the Artist who can know? :-)))

Whether it's his signature I can't say with certainty... but that it's his idea I'm sure!... I was thinking rather of a stencil made over the signatures!... Something that can link the panels to the art.. at the exhibition… and at Banksy against the backdrop of thousands of normal people. Did you sign? ;-)))

Inside the bible ..the pages were cut to ensure there was a spray can or similar that could be hidden inside it..

The artist certainly had a more or less long period of ''war'' within his being... which he then unleashed towards the outside... pouring everything onto the art and onto the walls. Walls are very important for Banksy. I think he vented his anger on the wall several times. And sometimes he even threw a can at him. A gym made from different weights. Life is often very hard. And in some moments... even a wall can save you. On the other hand, the artistic and cultural context in which the artist emerged is different. It won't be easy to succeed. Too many idiots around all over the world. I imagine how many times someone said to him... "with that little girl you want to represent?... but go home and throw away the can!". Here I think there is still a certain form of anger inside Banksy. In part linked to one's life to one's vicissitudes. And partly linked to the absurd competition that is never lacking in this environment. As far as I'm concerned, she's a phenomenal artist! Long live Banksy!
He deserves a big round of applause and a big encouragement to always go ahead with his head held high!... He shaped the reality of the street... taking the place that some idiots denied him at the beginning!
Simply... phenomenal.

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by Lroy on Jul 8, 2023 13:05:59 GMT 1, Not sure if you missed the detail on this point There is the plush, military toys and planes when he was a kid ( he made modelism ?), the holy Bible to show that his parents were Catholics and that he has grown in this context ( he is supposed to have been in a catholic school no ? ) .. Inside the bible ..the pages were cut to ensure there was a spray can or similar that could be hidden inside it.. I have seen that and I told it in my post ( I remixed it after, or I forgot to include it ) under the spray for us, the pray can ..

Banksy Show • Cut & Run • Glasgow , by taco on Jul 8, 2023 16:28:43 GMT 1, Great show, better than I was expecting. Kid's loved the wall at the end. Saw Jarvis Cocker in there as well. Not seen anyone mention the "well done" kids stickers, I thought they were Banksy related as well, or were they just random?

Just on the train now and headed home but I cannot speak highly enough about this exhibition. It’s genuinely incredible; thought provoking, insightful, (at points) interactive, superbly well imagined and put together and, at points, genuinely laugh out loud funny. I absolutely loved every bit of it!
If you’ve booked in to go (or are planning to) then you’re going have a great time.
Oh and some of the polaroids I asked for. In real life I have a face.
Banksy’s bedroom.
Exited through the gift shop.

People who buy sh*t like that for prices like that, without doing any research, deserve to be scammed.
