Orange Order Rat - Fake or Real Banksy?, by Crime in the City on Jun 28, 2023 0:58:05 GMT 1, "Keeping one's word is just normal. It is worth more than a lump of cash. And the moment that behaving normally becomes surprising, let alone deemed worthy of praise, is the very moment for us to realise that a societal/cultural shift is badly needed — along with a recalibration of our expectations of one another."
I probably wouldn't have started a new sentence with 'And' and would have added some 'lols' however this was the most thought provoking thing I've read today.

Orange Order Rat - Fake or Real Banksy?, by minibear on Jun 28, 2023 1:03:18 GMT 1, I know it's easy for me to say from the 'winning' side, but I'm a firm believer in honouring agreements, however casual they may be, and the principles of duality. Money especially has no added importance in my hand or yours. Having integrity means little when it's convenient.
This forum is full of people that go out of their way to ensure transactions are clearly communicated, smooth and as described, and met handled this the same as he likely would any other transaction on here. A+++ and positive dealings with etc etc. Would highly recommend. Buy/Sell with confidence.

Orange Order Rat - Fake or Real Banksy?, by LJCal on Jun 28, 2023 8:08:06 GMT 1, I don't know, I mean the fact someone has taken credit for it isn't definitive proof that it's not Banksy. Whoever did it, did a fairly good job. Lots wrong but also plenty right, tough one although normally after this length of time it would be up on his instagram. What odds are you offering just out of interest? Probably around 40%

Orange Order Rat - Fake or Real Banksy?, by lukas01 on Jun 28, 2023 9:57:37 GMT 1, Personally hope we see more betting on the forum. Polls are borderline useless imho, but prediction markets / books etc. are far more useful. I hope and assume that the 2x 500$ wasn't a meaningful sum for Met, but can't help but think the odds given were sub optimal, and somewhat ego derived - which is fine. I'd assume Met isn't an ex or current poker player, but would love to hear otherwise. If so the kelly criterion would like a word. Don't think anyone should care or be worried about people winning / losing because they said something. Everything we do is in some ways a bet. Buy a banksy stamp from DHWI273747 on fleabay? Bet that it is real, you will appreciate the purchase at a later date, and or sell for more than you paid. Buy chicken for dinner? Bet that you will enjoy the chicken and not under cook it leading to salmonella dub poisoning. Drink wine on a Friday? Bet that you will have a good evening, not annoy Lroy and get slagged off (love you Lroy else wouldnt make friendly joke) on the forum. I for one have enjoyed seeing the bets placed, the added nuance said bets brought to discussions surrounding the piece and its creator, and the following through of great forum members Met, minibear, and slevin. Bet more. I bet Banksy read about the bet too!... He must have thought that... the crew of the Forum is worthy of the Black Pearl ship from Pirates of the Caribbean! ;-)))

Bet more. Bet more? bet less, more like it! I would hate this forum to end up full of people saying "this is fake" and someone else chirping up with "wanna bet?" and then having a lengthy thread about odds and who pays who. This is supposed to be an art forum where people discuss and share their love of art. It's not about getting one over on your opponent. It's not about gloating when you are proved right. It's about sharing your love and enthusiasm for art. Or perhaps I'm just hopelessly naive.

Orange Order Rat - Fake or Real Banksy?, by avec art on Jun 28, 2023 14:18:30 GMT 1, The consequence of disingenuous and poorly considered words, are the persons’ (avatar/profile) reputation. Accountability a post writer faces is held in memory, either in the minds of its readers, or digitally. The quote button works well in such matters.
This is contrary to the premise where Met states that there is ‘nothing really at stake’. I think the value of a person’s word, doesn’t need qualifying with a monetary or financial backing. To suggest that, is to trivialise the value of words and/or reputation, and therein I see an inherent contradiction to some aspects of the argument presented by Met.
Whether the ‘bet’ should be satisfied is subjective. Anybody who has observed Mets output would not be in any doubt the casual agreement will be honoured. Ultimately, it is down to the recipients to defuse the bet, but I can’t see that happening now, which is a pity. We all get carried away at times, and I think that’s a good thing. Open expression should be encouraged, and that is roughly where my comment on free speech is coming from.
Well considered thoughts and ideas are pleasure to read, but first impressions (and kneejerk reactions) are also. It’s why staking a position early was taking a risk, the potential adverse consequences were already inherently in place.
