George Condo ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Print For Sale, by thisisthesam on Mar 20, 2024 15:35:48 GMT 1, I've been chatting to someone on Discord from the AA group and they believe only 15 of each were up for random allocation with more than 1500 entries so the odds were always against us unless you was pre-allocated one.
I have to confess, I perceived the 'art call' as a rather exclusive and elitist procedure, seemingly aimed at attracting only "proper collectors." With nothing more valuable in my possession than, say, a Banksy soup can poster or a welcome mat, I couldn't help but feel a bit disheartened. I lacked the means to impress their sales advisor with the rest of my hypothetical blue-chip collection.
I genuinely adore Condo, and missing out on this opportunity is quite sad ๐

George Condo ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Print For Sale, by Avant Arte on Mar 20, 2024 15:45:46 GMT 1, I've been chatting to someone on Discord from the AA group and they believe only 15 of each were up for random allocation with more than 1500 entries so the odds were always against us unless you was pre-allocated one. I do agree with Yoss's opinion regards pre-allocation as it did feel like a vetting/snobby process to ensure they were going to 'proper collectors'. I don't own anything more valuable than say a banksy soup can poster or the welcome mat so felt a little downbeat as I can't woo their sales advisor with the rest of my blue chip collection. I love Condo and this was a really good opportunity. Sad face. Hi! It's me, from Discord, my name is Roline. And yes 15 from each edition, we do show on the website the edition allocation % for draw so anyone can see it there. In this case it was 10% due to the works high sensitivity to flippers. For that same reason we had a more lengthy vetting time and process so people could reach out to our team and let us know they are interested. I understand that can feel tedious but this is so we can give everyone a chance to apply and be considered.

I've already spoken to someone who was pre-allocated a whole set. Already telling me how much they'll be worth in two years. It's not good enough.

Not entirely sure but I would have signed on the dotted line for one of these.
In the T&C's - they get first refusal at buying it back before you sell it anyways.
Just over 1k collectively for 45 prints - 4.5% chance.

For that same reason we had a more lengthy vetting time and process so people could reach out to our team and let us know they are interested. I understand that can feel tedious but this is so we can give everyone a chance to apply and be considered. Thanks for responding, but still confused on the intention of Avant Arte when it comes to the pre-sale allocation process (and I am not asking for proprietary information). But I had my call with Sofiya, I sent pictures and descriptions of all the art in my collection, I have only bought one other piece from AA. Do I say I have a better collection than I do? Do I say I am a very new collector and my home has prints from IKEA? If only super rich that constantly buy from AA is the trick, then just say so and then I won't get my hopes up. If I have to join Discord and constantly chat on the AA site, then let me know. But it is frustrating when publishers/galleries/marketplaces offer "lotteries" but really, who wins those? No one shows the lottery selection, no one knows the number that your entry is.
I love how the AA website says making art "radically more accessible for a new generation" when I see the same art "collectors" (aka second hand sellers aka flippers) keep getting access. Of course they purchase a lot of art from AA, that is the flippers' hustle!! I work a normal 9-5 day-job...I have a home and I like to walk by art on all my walls. I have never sold a piece that I bought. I have art in frames on the floor because I switch out what is on my walls. But the flippers that make money off selling in the grey market are always the ones selected. It really is quite disheartening.
And I understand the odds on lotteries. But there is no transparency in the selections. So I assume the last 15 of each print just went to someone who was pre-allocated but AA just wanted regular joe's to feel like we had a chance and just didn't hit the odds...
I love reading about when Curtis Penning and Christian Luiten were first starting out they couldn't get their feet in the door to bigger artists. I know the feeling...$7k would have been the biggest art purchase of my life...

That said, take your $7k and head over to the major auction houses. Massive bargains to be had.

As for using the auction houses, it is just giving my $ to flippers that don't use Ebay. I see deals now and then, but I would rather spend my money to get pieces first hand from the artist/artist's representatives.

I know the feeling...$7k would have been the biggest art purchase of my life... I didn't bother to apply for one of these but on a general note, I share your frustration. I've missed out on loads of prints that I have really wanted and it's extremely irritating to then find them being sold by flippers just a couple of weeks later.
But, then again, I'm not sure how AA or any other art producer can stop this sort of thing from happening. The only way to stop flippers, in my opinion, is if everyone stops buying from them. But I doubt that will ever happen.

George Condo ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Print For Sale, by Jonas B on Mar 20, 2024 17:02:00 GMT 1, Looking forward to the massive fallout when these are flipped straight after the 2 years. All a load of nonsense and will probably leave AA looking a bit silly.

George Condo ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Print For Sale, by orchid on Mar 20, 2024 17:11:31 GMT 1, Well...at the end of the waiting period, it says all prints are sold out. Yet another lottery that I did not get lucky with. I am not sure how Avant Arte allocates. Their website says it is for new-ish collectors. And it says it is for long-standing customers. I bought one piece from them: Paul Insect's "Peace". So I am neither new nor a long-standing customer. What are we supposed to say to publishers/galleries to be considered for pieces??? I don't have a ton of money for art, so I can't keep buying pieces I don't like just to be "considered", and I am a burgeoning collector, but nothing super-great like a banksy, but would love to hang a George Condo in my home to start being a more "considered" art lover. Same people get selected...same people flip the pieces. Just shaking my head...
Why do you care if people think you're a 'considered art lover' or not? And never buy work you don't like just to be considered for one you'll never get offered anyway. Buy what you like and what you can afford #1

George Condo ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Print For Sale, by Avant Arte on Mar 20, 2024 17:24:39 GMT 1, We do have collectors sign re-sale agreements. But yes it does happen that sometimes collectors violate that agreement. We act in good faith and have to trust that when people sign they intend to keep it. When that is not the case we of course won't allocate to them again.

George Condo ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Print For Sale, by lymbc001 on Mar 20, 2024 17:39:22 GMT 1, I think everyone needs to take a big breath and chill. We have 24hrs left, let what will be will be.
AA staff put a lot of time and effort into this release. I've been following AA for years and I've never seen this much effort be put in from a gallery from having interviews to being able to casually speak to its founders. Give them a break

And buying what I like and what I can afford is a well-used principle.

George Condo ๐บ๐ธ New Print Release โข Print For Sale, by Riotcops on Mar 20, 2024 18:00:23 GMT 1, They're not doing themselves any favours by doing the "lottery" privately. Buy a 15 minute slot on the local news networks and Powerball these Condos! That said, take your $7k and head over to the major auction houses. Massive bargains to be had. I assume that I just have to do like I did to be able to walk by a Banksy in my home, buy a fake of artists I really like and hang those... As for using the auction houses, it is just giving my $ to flippers that don't use Ebay. I see deals now and then, but I would rather spend my money to get pieces first hand from the artist/artist's representatives. My point being current auction prices are less than primary for a lot of contemporary artists. It's a bloodbath out there.
As for building your collection, I'd recommend attending the fairs. Email introduce yourself first and then meet in person. Having them put a face to a name goes a long way.
