Doesn't seem outrageous, he's a hugely popular, internationally exhibiting artist.
Am i missing something?

Based on all the other mediocre results from that auction I just assume that there's a high probability of a manipulated result. Pejac is an art world nobody, and they expect us to believe that a real collector purchased this for 47,880 in a bad market? It's like when a kid edits his report card to show straight A pluses instead of something more realistic.
If this is real, since the buyer is likely a person who visits UAA, please post the painting on the "Your latest Art Purchase?" thread when you receive it.

Pejac - Christies, by Wanchope on Mar 14, 2024 19:11:17 GMT 1, Yep makes total sense, pejac doesnโt have any fans or a market and probably all of the NYC pieces between 20k and 80k that were sold were just false and manipulated too. Honestly what a load of rubbish you are spitting. Not everything in the art world is a conspiracy or suspicious.

Pejac - Christies, by bsharp on Mar 14, 2024 19:49:27 GMT 1, It was likely sold directly by Pejac or the management. It also got a lot of publicity directly from Pejac which not a lot of artists do.
It probably sold for that amount but I donโt think it would achieve this if it was actually being sold by an individual collector (privately or via auction).

The market may be unregulated in the sense it doesn't have a regulatory body, but it is still regulated and becoming more so, KYC is now a statutory requirement for all professional sellers, dealing in works over โฌ10k. What you're describing is fraud and there have been a number of sucessful prosecutions for shill bidding schemes, unfortunately it's been mainly feckless del boys on ebay, making a few extra grand. This goes on in the industry on a massive scale with certain artists, whilst the police and SFO do nothing. The auction houses (often making hundreds of thousands in fees) turn a blind eye to what is clearly very suspect bidding.

Maybe youโre right but did this piece sell at an official auction for $60+k, yes or no?

Pejac - Christies, by LJCal on Mar 14, 2024 21:25:17 GMT 1, On the Pejac no idea if this was an arms length sale. It's a strong piece so entirely possible it's a genuine sale; saying that the market is week and I suspect he probably has lots more inventory left from New York show so equally possible it's been bid up.
