Ed Ruscha - New Avant Arte print release - SPAM, by qest on Apr 17, 2024 16:19:13 GMT 1, Avant Arte seems to be turning the art world into a poster shop. huge edition, huge prices.. I donโt know why respectful artists choose to work with such. These days everyone and everything seems to be about money. There is no passion anymore. Interesting comment.
Where are the huge prices?
Should the money be in the hands of the artist/those they work with, or the collectors who sell the works on down the road?
Is passion about creating opportunities for a large number fans to collect a work having the artist's imprimatur, or is passion about inducing scarcity to drive up demand and prices?

Ed Ruscha - New Avant Arte print release - SPAM, by fasttwitch on Apr 17, 2024 17:47:30 GMT 1, I think this was better than 1700 people "missing out" on owning art from an important artist. I hate the F5 days, never had a bot. How many times have I sat by a computer only to have the item gone before I could check out. All the people who wanted one and could afford it got it EXCEPT me who has a wife that said, "No way are you putting that up in our house!"

Ed Ruscha - New Avant Arte print release - SPAM, by Lroy on Apr 19, 2024 16:14:59 GMT 1, Yes, I appreciate really. I told the truth : Ihave said that I was to buy the print, until they changed their mind and put shipping+taxes for all worldwide at the same price ( 100 euros ) , if not I would have to pay only taxes ( as they ship from NL )... In a question they reckon that it could be the big edition that could stop us...
I told them that i like them too!

Ed Ruscha - New Avant Arte print release - SPAM, by Pafori on Apr 19, 2024 22:41:54 GMT 1, FWIW ...
Love Ruscha, traveled to MoMA to see the show.
My feedback to AA survey as to why I did not buy:
It becomes a poster when LACMA text is placed on the front of the print: the art is negatively impacted so that LACMA can be promoted. Further, it's an unsigned poster.
Here was my primary issue:
Actual Size, the original painting by Ruscha, is showing the relative size of the product vs. the much, much larger billboarding of SPAM. The message: we are being sold, over-promised, hoodwinked.
The LACMA print is smaller than the original painting. Of course, the rationale for making the print smaller is to make it more palatable, it will fit on more buyers' walls. The irony is massive, are we being hoodwinked again as Actual Size is misrepresented?

Ed Ruscha - New Avant Arte print release - SPAM, by Jonas B on Apr 20, 2024 10:41:24 GMT 1, Sounds like they sold a lot less than they planned/hoped to. Fact is they got this one wrong in every way. Maybe apart from the paper weight which was acceptable.

Fact is they got this one wrong in every way. Maybe apart from the paper weight which was acceptable. They sold nearly 2,000. That's hardly a small amount. I'm guessing that they are perfectly happy with that amount. The Anish Kapoor sold less than a third of that.

Ed Ruscha - New Avant Arte print release - SPAM, by Jonas B on Apr 20, 2024 14:02:47 GMT 1, Why would they select this specific edition to send questionnaires to people to understand why they donโt buy it? I agree 2000 is no small amount but whoโs to say they werenโt expecting to sell 5000+? They didnโt make a million euros on these. After production costs 50% would go to the artist and a percentage to LACMA. Was delivery also included in that price? Packaging? Didnโt the price include vat?

I didn't want to state the obvious, but yes as a gross sales figure. As a comparison the AI weiwei release, were 3 signed limited editions, which were unique works and that required artistic input and signatures from the artist. These went for less then half of the above gross value. Apples and pears, but I would say they did pretty well getting 2k sales out of this.

Nice cover indeed ! Thanks ! quicksnap , itโs not a critic ( I just received the Ep ) , but what is strange is that itโs edited by Apple Music, and above all, on the back they did not mentioned not tag Ed Ruscha ! Why ? He did not give any authorization! Well, just a bit deceived โฆ ( and the Beatles is not my cup of tea ๐บ).. Anyway thank you for all !

I haven't opened the record I bought. Not sure why art credit isn't listed on the back, but as was said, it might be inside. Also easily verifiable online. The nice thing about the way the cover is done is that it doesn't say The Beatles on the front, so at least if you don't like them much, its just an Ed Ruscha image ๐

Ed Ruscha - New Avant Arte print release - SPAM, by met on Apr 30, 2024 0:57:09 GMT 1, Avant Arte seems to be turning the art world into a poster shop. huge edition, huge prices..
You may have been working off a false premise:
That the above member was posting good‑faith, real comments โ as opposed to hypocritical and disingenuous ones, mainly intended for the purpose of misdirection.
I recall his four random posts* in rapid succession on 17 April:
My immediate thought then was, "Here we go. He's back, looking to mislead and throw the forum off his stench again. Within a week, we'll get some faux‑naive post about a new Stowe Gallery release."
____________________
Side note
STP and Acme Thunderer already called out the dodginess earlier this year in the Clown print thread*:
Donโt normally like Clown stuff but loving the grey one. Would look great with a matching frame. At ยฃ250 why not Hi Jamie!
Donโt normally like Clown stuff but loving the grey one. Would look great with a matching frame. At ยฃ250 why not I was talking about bad smells earlier in this thread and up pops Timmyup who only posts anything to do with St owe. Games up sucker - anything you post actually has a negative effect on sales rather than helping!
____________________
On this occasion, however, there was a miscalculation by me. I messed up a bit.
A later "Hey guys, anyone heard of this [artwork/artist] from Stowe Gallery?"-post did indeed come.
But not within the week, as expected. It took a week and a half to arrive, an extra four days, in the thread for the frankly-godawful MissMe*:
Jamie Marchant of Stowe Gallery might actually be incapable of integrity. With at least half-a-dozen usernames on this message board, perhaps he just has conman DNA.
The fake Banksys he was previously selling also come to mind. Hat‑tip to dogstar* and Prescription Art* for their invaluable screenshot evidence.
Yet in fairness to Marchant, those extra four days mentioned above also mean he's 57% more patient than I previously gave him credit for. And patience is apparently a virtue.
So, apologies and congratulations to shady Jamie!
While his dishonesty is entirely predictable, his timing sometimes isn't.
