I wouldn’t say so much that it is strange, but a good business practice to try and make sure that it sells out, based on demand, with the item not yet in production at the time we were initially contacted.

Was offered early access two months ago and can confirm that edition size was definitely 500 at that point.
Price level did not feel right for such a big edition, especially in the current market and compared to previous Ai Weiwei releases which is why I passed. I can imagine they might have struggled with the pre-sale.
Having already sold some to collectors, it's more difficult to change the price point without rubbing people the wrong way. Whereas, dropping the edition size to 200 would probably only enhance the proposition in the eyes of those that pre-bought.
Don't think it gives a good impression though from AA, although I can only praise them from dealings I had with them in the past.

Metal is great as a choice for sculptures and much prefer it to resin or ceramic or opaline glass. But bronze is the best. I guess it is not modern enough for Ai Weiwei. His only famous bronze piece is the Circle of Animals series.

I have a vase and have ordered the cameras. Honestly can't wait as to where to put the camera up in my house. I love the vase but the excitement was diminished once opened up, whereas I think the cameras will be more of a talking point etc. Just my opinion of course.
