Banksy Safari in London , by Acme Thunderer on Aug 8, 2024 20:32:53 GMT 1, The footage of the satellite dish being stolen gave the impression that 3 people were involved, but it was actually 4 people. They also tried to throw the phone away of the person who filmed it.
This article on the D@ily M@il website has some interesting photos. I’ve added below so you don’t have the click on the website.

Not the first time ‘Arty Farty 15’ has made stuff up. There was this one involving the Big Issue from Cut & Run that was in particularly bad taste.

Banksy Safari in London , by Londown 01 on Aug 8, 2024 21:27:55 GMT 1, They are all not spectacular in themselves, but being part of series it'll make sense eventually.
One thing that stands out though, and it could be part of the whole message/ intention, is this: Banksy is publishing the images on his Instagram, and in all of these there is an observer featured prominently: ALL of HIS images show the works being seen, or more accurately being overlooked. As this seems to be a common theme, it must be intentional:
1. A CCTV camera (a machine) actually looking AT the work, the animal (and not the street/building where it is supposed to) 2. A white woman walking a dog, with earbuds, not aware of the Banksy above her 3. What looks like 2 (Chinese?) tourists, looking the other way 4. A black woman looking into her phone and not at the graffiti/ animal
So whatever is going on here, it seems that it (also) has to do with seeing, perceiving, or vice versa missing (the importance) of something.

Banksy Safari in London , by fuzzed on Aug 8, 2024 21:40:50 GMT 1, It's almost a shame he didn't post the images to his social media 6 months or even a year after he'd painted the works. Would've been interesting to see which of them survived over time. Seriously? I enjoy looking at street art photos but it’s the thrill, chase, getting to see new artwork before it’s destroyed I like. Some get nicked, some get defaced, some get innocently painted over. I’m sure artists enjoy this too - seeing what happens. That would be a boring Banksy show IMO.

It's an interesting thought. It's hard to tell though whether they're being photographed as Banksy specifically wanted them to be, OR this is the style in which Banksy's offical photographer likes to work. Or it could be a bit of both? I imagine it being a limited time event, the photographer takes a tonne of pictures and the boss chooses the ones he likes, in the style that he seems to favour. Banksy, it would appear, does seem to like images where members of the public are just going about their day and not creaming their pants at the paint on the wall, like us anoraks would. Don’t read too much into it. Street art always looks great with people around who are oblivious to it. It’s how I normally like to frame a photo- gives it size and perspective.

Or it could be a bit of both? I guess future posts will tell: but right now it would make sense because the photos give you
a) different types of people b) different causes of them missing what is actually important: phone, media (earplugs), mass tourism, technology
c) could therefore have an environmental concern to it
And with the first one with the CCTV facing up, i.e. the wrong way, its clearly a conscious artistic choice

Still intrigued as to how the Mail got an extended version of it. If there’s one outlet I didn’t think B’s team would entertain, it’s them. Guess PR is PR though?

From my experience (as I work in PR/comms) these photographers are freelance and don’t work for any specific media and sell their content via press agencies. It’s just that the Mail decided to buy more photos from a few sources.
It is plausible that Jo Brooks tipped off a press agency that something might be of interest at 1pm at a specific address in Peckham knowing that this will be stolen. I expect the photographers had no idea what the story might be and just knew the location.
