Artists that could make the difference, by LJCal on Sept 16, 2024 1:41:14 GMT 1, In the age of memes and A.I. generated picture, I think it would be hard for an artist these days to make a memorable splash with any kind of political pastiche imagery. Your meticulously painted work will quickly be lumped in with a million other virtual pictures and folk will move on at a glance. Nobody will care that you stayed up, night after night, painting and crying over a canvas. They'll just assume you put some prompts into a generator like the rest of them. In fairness this looks like an AI generated image.

Artists that could make the difference, by Onket on Sept 16, 2024 9:39:49 GMT 1, I wonder what Kamala Harris makes of the image. It's a standard cliche for feminism and the idea that women are just as capable as men. I can't see it particularly appealing to Republicans or undecided voters. They already see her as a dangerous liberal and this poster does nothing to ally those fears. "the idea that"...?!

Artists that could make the difference, by its all about me on Sept 16, 2024 11:28:01 GMT 1, I wonder what Kamala Harris makes of the image. It's a standard cliche for feminism and the idea that women are just as capable as men. I can't see it particularly appealing to Republicans or undecided voters. The "idea" doesn't mean it isn't true, or that we should be suspicious of it. At one point, somebody came up with the idea that the Earth travels around the sun and not the other way round.

I think (I hope) that this is losing something in translation, tbh.

Artists that could make the difference, by topper on Sept 16, 2024 14:01:34 GMT 1, I think the image is a lazy cliche. Any artistic merit was in the original, this is presented without irony or any modern/post-modern twist. No more a work of art than a 'Keep Calm and Drink Tea' tea towel which at least does have an ironic element.
Okay for a campaign image, though a little weak IMO.

So, same as Shepard Faireyโs Obama print that was taken from a copyrighted picture (and whole thing settled in court?) yet, look at the success of the image.

Well, itโs for free of course, but the drawing and colors are not very well done. Obama was more old school ( red black bleu cream ) and was more photogenic..

Artists that could make the difference, by abc on Sept 17, 2024 1:51:47 GMT 1, Replying to EnS , I think the quest for irony stems from the whole contemporary art thing (that simply being "pretty" is no longer sufficient). Art is supposed to be "revelatory", and in this case the message being made is not especially deep nor "revelatory".

Artists that could make the difference, by nobokov on Sept 17, 2024 18:45:13 GMT 1, Hi, There are some artists that might become part of history with their work. Shepard Fairey became the center of the Obama candidacy. I believe Phresh Laundry might have a good chance to repeat the success of Shepard with his version of Kamala Harris / Rosie the riveter. What do you think? www.instagram.com/thatlaundryYes, I think it's quite possible that Phresh Laundry will join the ranks with another artist that I believe will make waves in the coming election. That artist being Kool Beings. Let's all toast to their future success. Here's a piece by Kool Beings.
