I guess the question is - does the seller seek to trick the purchaser by passing off the piece as "'official' or authentic Banksy artwork"? The seller is obviously hoping to profit from confusion but there's no arguing with the item description which starts with
'High quality Reproduction Banksy prints' then says 'Exact copies of Banksy's Original iconic early works' then says 'they have been scanned from the original prints' then says 'They are stamped on the reverse - BANKSY COPY - to prevent being sold on the market as originals'... I'm not a fan of this kind of behaviour, but I think it's pretty clear these works are not by our mysterious friend Mr B.

Not everybody can afford paying Banksy's prices for an original piece of his art, so I like the idea that people with less money and looking to DECORATE their house can buy this kind of stuff but I have to admit I'm a bit surprised that so many art lovers from this Forum get tempted by those. Personnally I'd rather spend ยฃ65 on a growing artist (STIK's last original plaque was ยฃ75 only) rather than on this kind of reproductions...
However, I admit I've bought some Banksy COASTERS on one of those websites so I can enjoy some Banksy's pictures (which I can't afford) while having some guests sharing a glass at home, that's pretty much all these websites can expect from me ;-)

I know anyone that didnt go further to check it was real is a bit of a mug, but an image of this quality might be enough to fool someone. In which case the ebay seller will ultimatly be helping that happen.

Because they are going to look like authentic prints, please don't tell me that some dodgy bast**d isn't going to get a pencil and add a little number on it and maybe a signature, While said bast**d maybe has done it to hang on his/her wall to impress their mates, someone is going to try and sell one/many to possibly unsuspecting punters who may not be as well informed as the members on here. Therefore in my eyes this is so wrong.
On a wider note, how about this lot pick on another artist who doesn't issue COA's with their work and hasn't got an outfit like Pest Control to authenticate prints. How you going to trust any purchase on the secondary market again?.

I personally wouldn't buy one... but I can't see the harm it will do. People will obviously know the difference between these reproductions and the original ones. People won't stop buying original prints just because of these... similar things have been on the market for years.

Looks like a couple of these have sold and I can see why... people who have always wanted a banksy screenprint but can afford current market prices can get the next best thing. Thats essentially what Sunday B Morning prints are! (The original screens were destroyed long ago)
Have always wanted a laugh now and its tempting but I think the fake watch analogy sums it up!

It won't change anything to the orignals value as it won't be the same clientele. It can also be nice for someone who wanted an image for so long but can't find it or don't have the cash. it can be a temporary solution (which just came out of love).

From what I've read they amount to about the same thing, similar arguments being used for both. I'm happy to stick to the real thing, even if it does take alot more work / saving and hunting to get one, thats part of the fun working for something makes it all the more sweet when it happens.

I completely agree with you mate but a lot of people here, just seem to say they only buy out of love. When you buy as much art as most of us do, okay there is love but you don't throw that kind of money out of the window for no reason.

Idea behind street art is that it's open to everyone. Why can't everyone enjoy the same thing with a Banksy print?

I'm not out to make money. The thought always lingers in the back of my head especially when I make large purchases, but I don't have a portofolio, or a flat files, or anything and everything I bought I plan to hang. I'm pretty new though.

Also someone posted earlier look at the great signed prints available on the 50pound art thread from other artists for people who want to spend 50 quid. But these copies will sell, it's the same as someone who buys a Warhol or Van Gough (sun flower) copy because its a world wide popular image. Lots of students will be buying these up, same as I had copies of Escher & Dali on my walls when at Uni.
