Damien Hirst H18 • The Kaleidoscopes , by kfroms on Oct 25, 2024 17:11:35 GMT 1, I generally do not buy any of these di-bond mirrors BUT there is something off with these - they really should have been square or round OR the cropping should have been different so its not chopped off at the top and bottom.
Knowing that the next drop is only a few weeks away I would sit this one out.

Sounds cheap to me, I would have thought double or triple that would have been a good valuation considering the edition sizes. I think currency prints each unique were edition of 1000 and prices are €1k.

Damien Hirst H18 • The Kaleidoscopes , by LJCal on Oct 25, 2024 22:26:18 GMT 1, Anyone buying in the U.K. I would highly recommend not rushing to put this on the wall. I’m checking with Heni if buyers can opt to not pay the VAT and leave in the vault, and pay if released into UK. I know they do this on other releases. $1,000 is a lot of money to absorb if you end up catapulting it abroad after 6 months

Damien Hirst H18 • The Kaleidoscopes , by its all about me on Oct 26, 2024 12:41:08 GMT 1, I have to admit, I quite like the white one. And the yellow one has a certain appeal. I generally don't like dibond stuff but if they made these in a circular dibond I bet they would look amazing on the wall. A wasted opportunity.

Damien Hirst H18 • The Kaleidoscopes , by LJCal on Oct 26, 2024 20:17:01 GMT 1, After much deliberation i think Im going to pass, I'm pretty sure most people who apply will get one, if they were square or circle I would have applied but ultimately I think the landscape format will hold these back and I don't see this as something I'd want on the wall. I also think at a total of 1000 the edition is a little too large for this market. Shame because some of the colourways are really nice and different to previous releases.

Why are there zero reflections on all of these photos?
Have they improved? Is it a new way of displaying/ lighting these? Or are the photos edited?

Damien Hirst H18 • The Kaleidoscopes , by pamplemousse on Oct 28, 2024 11:40:21 GMT 1, Personally think these are beautiful and not a single reason to complain. This is the first time in a while you can get a limited edition butterfly work at a reasonable price, that looks great and of a decent size!
Fair enough if you don't like the medium but at least they are diasec mounted rather than just laminated so will feel substantial and have presence on the wall. Would like to point out that these are printed on paper then mounted to acrylic and dibond after. The blue one should have been left out as similar to The Aspects and Water from The Elements imo.
I do agree Hirst churns out a lot of work but I am starting to see him more of an artist come designer who releases collections like Eames, Vitra, Hay and so on...
One could argue these are square prints that have been stretched wider to give more of the image rather than cropped. Some cropped versions below for comparison...

There's some sort of door in this one maybe with an Exit sign and an arrow pointing down. Also, if you squint, I think I see a leprechaun.
Wait, no. That's Damien.

They are interesting, I am on the fence due to the price but am swaying more towards the white one as the others are almost too vibrant and could be somewhat overbearing.

Damien Hirst H18 • The Kaleidoscopes , by Frndly Fire on Oct 30, 2024 9:37:01 GMT 1, Laminated just adds a thin protective layer on top - like the iron on stuff you could make fake IDs with. Diasec means it’s face mounted on to acrylic glass - it’s a more expensive process and should enhance colour and depth (and reflection…).
