Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by Zippy on May 8, 2008 16:05:31 GMT 1, there is NO plans for one next year. Come on guys, enjoy this one first before looking for the next one. Mr B keeps surprising us and is always looking to improve on his next project. Look at Bethlehem - genius. How can he beat that? Cans Show. How can he beat that? I have no idea. Z

Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by seidbereit on May 8, 2008 16:47:51 GMT 1, Just checked to see if POW had archived the homepage where they had the MAYDAY MAYDAY headline but apparently they haven't... anyway, I'm pretty sure they defintely described it as the "first" cans festival (but I'm not sure if they said anything about it being annual).
Anyone remember what the front page said? Different cities each time would be a good idea.
(EDIT: and the way "first" was used seemed to hint at there being more of them in case anyone jumps down my throat to point of that of course it was the first etc.)

Something is only ever ground breaking once, then try something totally different and move on and on.....
Banksy and POW are pioneers and hopefully they will be taking us to varied pastures over the course of their relationship!

Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by Jef Aerosol on May 8, 2008 22:06:40 GMT 1, I would just like to remind you that several important stencil art events have already taken place in the past ! I will always remember the big event that took place at Agnes B's galerie du jour in 1986 : probably the very first "stencil festival" ever ! And in 1992, there was the stencil festival in Leipzig (Germany) : an unforgettable Stencil event... (with Blek, Miss tic, La signe, Epsylon, myself, etc... + german stencillers) There was also the big meeting at Bondy (near Paris) in 1985 : for 3 days we all painted along the canal de l'Ourcq (there was Blek, Speedy Graphito, VLP, Epsylon, and many others... we all had a great time...) And there was also La Ruée vers l'Art in 1985 too... And lots of other events between 1985 and 1995 when the stencillers of the time met in festivals or similar events to paint live in the way we did at Cans...

Not only have you shown your age (!) but proved the point that despite the current hype the Waterloo tunnel - however impressive - is not some watershed Ground Zero. Scene has always been one that has innovated and created and will continue to do so long after the 'urban' art scene becomes 'so last year/decade/century'. Hats off to the frontliners. Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by Jef Aerosol on May 8, 2008 23:00:57 GMT 1, But it also has to be said that the Tunnel is probably the most impressive event ever ! What we did in the 80s was probably very modest in comparison even though it was important too if you consider that the path had not been traced yet... The size of some of the stencils painted in the tunnel could not be imagined at the time ! one reason being that we just didn't have the tools we have today...

Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by Jef Aerosol on May 8, 2008 23:06:43 GMT 1, talking about some future event, I'm dreaming of a massive mural that would not be a juxtaposition of works by different people, with no link between them whatsoever, but a real and huge collaboration by 20, 40, 60 different stencil artists ! This wouldn't mean a big messy stencil jam, but something planned and discussed, a real composition that would take everybody's styles into account, some unique and gigantic piece that could be signed by 50 names ! It would mean sharing and accepting each other's suggestions, letting egos aside, getting organized, etc... I don't know if such a project is possible or pure utopia, but it might be worth trying ! Imagine all the people... You may say I'm a dreamer...
Am I the only one ?

Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by Trismanco on May 9, 2008 10:10:47 GMT 1, I can count eight female artists who were invited to the main wall...
Lex, Vexta, Altocontraste, Dot dot, Borbo, Ananda Nahu, Btoy and Run don't Walk
That's not too bad in a fairly male dominated scene.
