Matter of opinion, but half the people who bought it probably had no opinion on it whatsoever and were purely taking a punt. However the fact is the 50s ad style, 6 colours and a varnish over the whole print all go to make this print superfly, whatever you think.

DFace Street Improvement Prints, by Heavyconsumer on Mar 27, 2008 15:36:45 GMT 1, We'll see. I think the series is drab, dull and unattractive. For those of you who love everything Dface, it's great, for people that wantattractive art on the wall, I can't seee any appeal. Horses for courses, horses for courses!

I was thinking the same. It is content and meaning that set a piece apart from others. Not varnish or 5 colors, or the fact that it was ripped from a 50's add or whatever add. The moment I look at something I know if it hits me or not, and I would imagine most others do as well.
All that being said, I don't much like the Street Improvements series...but I like a lot of other stuff D does. This conversation reminds me of the Faile release yesterday, so many people talking about edition size and how hand finished, that Faile was a great fucking image, and if you had the $1000 to spare, you're a lucky bastard!

DFace Street Improvement Prints, by thinkbank on Mar 27, 2008 18:26:46 GMT 1, this isnt D-Face best stuff by any stretch of the imagination, but if someone likes it and they want t spend the money then good luck to them.
i too think its over priced and the 'get the set' mentality makes it extortionate.

sorry computer cut me off so i couldnt respond
Dface doesnt create Graphic orientated art - he creates Graphics full stop! he is a graphic designer by profession!!!
Banksy is a graffiti artist - Dface is not by tradition

DFace Street Improvement Prints, by Winter on Mar 27, 2008 19:01:56 GMT 1, I'm a graphic designer and I really like Dface's work. I think Failes work is very graphic as was Warhols. Graphic designers used to be called commercial artists - basically producing art with commercial value. In theory that could take on any form. I love Julian Opie, his work is very 'graphic' but also highly regarded in the world of art.
Bored now - please don't turn this into a mass debate

DFace Street Improvement Prints, by Heavyconsumer on Mar 28, 2008 1:20:10 GMT 1, When I started the disrespect element in this thread toward "Street Improvements", it was just that, I was no knocking the artist or his entire body of work. As it so happens there are few Dface pieces that I like, but there are a few. My comment of drab, dull and unattractive, may have been misperceived as insulting towards the artist. I had intended to communcate that I in no way connect with these specific pieces of art and can't find any enjoyment in their aesthetics. While I "get" the concept it just doesn't please me or make me sit up in any way.
No doubt Dface and Banksy and most other artists regularly debated on the forum have more strings to their bows than just the current offerings and are in many cases always developing their art as they go through life.
As for calling eachother douchebags. You're all douchebags ok!!!! What is a douchebag anyway? Wondered that a while ago and then forgot all about it until now.

Ha, to leave this thread on a good note!
i am actually a fan of DFace in general - not so much this release which i think is pretty weak and uninspiring but of his work in general, especially some of his street work, just making a point that he is basically a douchbag, sorry i mean a graphic designer turned street artist.
alls well that ends well anyway, now - back to gloating about who got one....

DFace Street Improvement Prints, by noodles1 on Mar 28, 2008 10:13:28 GMT 1, I was a big D* fan but the weakness and laziness of this series has dissapointed me so much that Ive been selling most of my D*Face bits and pieces and jus keeping the stuff I really like. I really will need to see something much better in the future to keep me buying his stuff. We all wanted him to go back a little 'old School' but my need for old school D* wasnt to go through his old 'Illustrator' files and send 5 of them to BRP to print.
Iv always argued D*s corner when some have said they're bored of his repetative work. Im bored now. This Series is more than repetative its jus plain f**king lazy!!!
