I disagree, though I always found Pulp Fiction a bit sloppily executed. That 'Love is in the Air' is a bargain..!

TAKING OFFERS - HAND, PF, TW, MQ, by RBK on Jul 29, 2008 17:08:32 GMT 1, I think that's BS - if you have one of these framed in your house you'd know that isn't true. Of course these images are saturated if you frequent these forums and spend too much time on Ebay.

TAKING OFFERS - HAND, PF, TW, MQ, by Harveyn on Jul 29, 2008 17:09:13 GMT 1, More to do with the credit crunch than the images IMO. I know not everyone on here is a Banksy fan (thats perfectly acceptable as far as I am concerned) but for a significant number who are I would suggest these images are still very appealing.
I think people have less money to spend and or are being more cautious how they do so. I would also say that shrewd buyers recognize that the market still potentially has some way to fall and they are holding back. That all said I think summer is a bad time to sell and a good time to buy.

i'll agree it's the best of the bunch
but, nearly £2k for an unsigned, 2 colour screenprint? calling it a bargain is stretching it i think.....

TAKING OFFERS - HAND, PF, TW, MQ, by pimp on Jul 29, 2008 17:15:37 GMT 1, i am/was a banksy fan
and indeed have several prints still and at various times have owned some of the above
but, i really think they are beginning to lose at lot of their relevance and also lustre. think about it, back in 2006/ early 2007 everyone wanted a Banksy and there was zero criticism of his work frankly.
but just take a step back and have another look. particularly at the likes of Pulp and HAND. They just aren't very good, are they?

TAKING OFFERS - HAND, PF, TW, MQ, by Harveyn on Jul 29, 2008 17:21:44 GMT 1, I guess it is not unreasonable to assume that some of Banksy's images will date quicker than others and some not at all.
Personally I would imagine loving having either TW or Flower Thrower (from the above list) on my wall irrespective of how many years pass. That said its impossible to predict how your tastes and opinions will change with time.

TAKING OFFERS - HAND, PF, TW, MQ, by Prescription Art on Jul 29, 2008 17:21:52 GMT 1, A good collection has variety, and for anyone interested in street art you can't not have something by Banksy. When I started collecting, Banksy was pretty much all I bought... but I now appreciate the benefits of enjoying a range or artists and styles. While I no longer consider Banksy the be all & end all, I can't see the prints I have on my walls at the moment coming down anytime soon. They're not losing their lustre in my eyes.

TAKING OFFERS - HAND, PF, TW, MQ, by bmjt on Jul 29, 2008 17:25:21 GMT 1, I think there's definitely some truth in what pimp is saying, it's almost like a fashion, a passing trend that ages quite quickly and fits to a decade or so. Again, I think that's an inherent issue in a lot of street art, which due to the environment has to be reasonably quick and with few layers; of course there are hundreds of artist of don't adhere to this, but is classicaly ephemeral with a short life span, in total contrast to the more classical image of art; Van Gogh etc. I think there's also an issue of having them on the wall netrualising the impact of street work, out of the natural and true environment. I'm sure that's not a completely lucid argument in my haste of typing, but hopefully makes some sense.

TAKING OFFERS - HAND, PF, TW, MQ, by They call me Stephen on Jul 29, 2008 17:58:49 GMT 1, Trends might come and go but talent remains.
It might be the case that banksy's print do not have the same demand as they did in recent times but I firmly believe that this will come around again.
As mentioned in this thread it can be referred to as a fashion. Current fashion is fickle, we move on quickly changing our tastes on a regular basis and wardrobes to suit. Banksy no longer obtains the high prices he once did; no recent work, his unveiling, a downturn in economic market, who knows and who cares? If you are looking to make a quick profit off of his work then you have well and truly missed the boat. Go and find a new artist who you think you can flip.
Wasn’t there a time when Warhol prints could be picked up for ‘next to nothing’ as he was out of the current times fashion??
Christ with shopping bags needs to be added to the list of prints that will 'stand the test of time'

TAKING OFFERS - HAND, PF, TW, MQ, by Michael Jacob on Jul 29, 2008 18:09:17 GMT 1, I agree CWSB is in a whole other league. After that, Id pick LN, LIITA, and Barcode. Im also huge fan of Napalm, but really tough to display.
I love the Kates, but I think in the long run, they wont command as much. Its a less expensive version of a Warhol Marilynn Monroe. Its a great piece, but in general its a mimic of what has already been done. Banksy has too many other great pieces that are truely his. Im not saying Kates arent his, but its not true to his form. Banksy like just about every other artist has their inspirations and its clear Warhol was one of his.

TAKING OFFERS - HAND, PF, TW, MQ, by MarkyMark on Jul 29, 2008 21:07:10 GMT 1, interesting comments. maybe its a case of familiarity breeds contempt. in any case, banksy is the only street artist who has firmly broken into the big league and what i find really strange is the amount of money that some people are prepared to spend on art by complete unknowns.
