i hadn't realised until these pic were put up, but i was looking at them and thought how old and tired and slightly dull they looked

give it twenty years and i reckon those images will be about as desirable as syphillis

More to do with the credit crunch than the images IMO. I know not everyone on here is a Banksy fan (thats perfectly acceptable as far as I am concerned) but for a significant number who are I would suggest these images are still very appealing.

I think people have less money to spend and or are being more cautious how they do so. I would also say that shrewd buyers recognize that the market still potentially has some way to fall and they are holding back. That all said I think summer is a bad time to sell and a good time to buy.

and indeed have several prints still and at various times have owned some of the above

but, i really think they are beginning to lose at lot of their relevance and also lustre.
think about it, back in 2006/ early 2007 everyone wanted a Banksy and there was zero criticism of his work frankly.

but just take a step back and have another look. particularly at the likes of Pulp and HAND. They just aren't very good, are they?

A good collection has variety, and for anyone interested in street art you can't not have something by Banksy. When I started collecting, Banksy was pretty much all I bought... but I now appreciate the benefits of enjoying a range or artists and styles. While I no longer consider Banksy the be all & end all, I can't see the prints I have on my walls at the moment coming down anytime soon. They're not losing their lustre in my eyes.

Would definitely agree some images are much better than others. I think the ones that will stand the test of time are: Rude Copper, Barcode, Laugh Now, Happy Choppers, LIITA, Girl With Balloon & BME

Trends might come and go but talent remains.

It might be the case that banksy's print do not have the same demand as they did in recent times but I firmly believe that this will come around again.

As mentioned in this thread it can be referred to as a fashion. Current fashion is fickle, we move on quickly changing our tastes on a regular basis and wardrobes to suit. Banksy no longer obtains the high prices he once did; no recent work, his unveiling, a downturn in economic market, who knows and who cares? If you are looking to make a quick profit off of his work then you have well and truly missed the boat. Go and find a new artist who you think you can flip.

Wasn’t there a time when Warhol prints could be picked up for ‘next to nothing’ as he was out of the current times fashion??

Christ with shopping bags needs to be added to the list of prints that will 'stand the test of time'

I agree CWSB is in a whole other league. After that, Id pick LN, LIITA, and Barcode. Im also huge fan of Napalm, but really tough to display.

I love the Kates, but I think in the long run, they wont command as much. Its a less expensive version of a Warhol Marilynn Monroe. Its a great piece, but in general its a mimic of what has already been done. Banksy has too many other great pieces that are truely his. Im not saying Kates arent his, but its not true to his form. Banksy like just about every other artist has their inspirations and its clear Warhol was one of his.

interesting comments. maybe its a case of familiarity breeds contempt.
in any case, banksy is the only street artist who has firmly broken into the big league and what i find really strange is the amount of money that some people are prepared to spend on art by complete unknowns.

I hate CWSB. For me, one of his most immature, unaware works...
