Perfectly acceptable as far as I am concerned.

Absolute credibility killer being (if) commisioned by that wanker but also a mark of his deserved success. I would turn Guy Ritchie down but I'm not Banksy. Where does he go from here?

Guy Ritchie Commissions Banksy for Madonna Portrait , by bostonlongstroke on Aug 12, 2008 6:42:23 GMT 1, WOW!
We got a sh1t-ton of Guy Ritchie haters on here...
Why all the animosity?
I thought 'Snatch' and 'Lockstock' were great!
And, I'd still totally knock the back outta Madonna!
...Even though, she does look like she just main-lined a grocery bag full of black-tar heroin, into her neck.
Seriously, I'd hit it!
I'm a sad individual, with very low standards... if any.

Guy Ritchie Commissions Banksy for Madonna Portrait , by mcster on Aug 12, 2008 8:04:50 GMT 1, He's a Mockney knob, she's still verging on 'do-able' if only for the "I've f**ked Madonna" brag if nothing else !
Back to the point though, I would think twice if I were Banksy. First George Michael wanting Banksy to paint part of his house and reveal himself (I'm assuming George has a mock up of a public loo in his Garden where this would take place) and now Guy Ritchie wanting to commission a piece for Madonna. On the plus side he'd be made for life financially. On the downside both commissions would devalue Banksy's credibility IMO.

Guy Ritchie Commissions Banksy for Madonna Portrait , by bostonlongstroke on Aug 12, 2008 8:15:54 GMT 1, glad to see there are sick f**kers like me around here... 8+)
LOL.... We may be a dying breed, GBH.
This economic stagnation that were in, has got most of our kind refraining from their normal morally questionable antics. Cuz we all know, you gotta pay to play... and play time can be expensive!
Although the 'low-ground' is a lonely road... I'll maintain my heading, 'til the 'moral high-ground' is rich with hookers and booze!
But, it's very comforting to know we are not yet extinct. And, the are others out there that speak candidly, without fear of admonishment!... Well, to me, at least. ;D
Did I just make this sound as if our world was being overrun by traditional bible-thumpers, hell-bent on ridding the world of fun during times of economic uncertainty???
Sh1t... I think I did.

Guy Ritchie Commissions Banksy for Madonna Portrait , by doublehelix on Aug 12, 2008 8:34:46 GMT 1, If the story is true (flip a coin) it would be interesting to see what Banksy creates given his bite the hand that feeds you approach, such as the 'I can't believe you morons buy this shit' print.
I could see the appeal of such an approach to self loathing superficial celebrities, it would be another step towards Banksy becoming the Warhol of our generation - if he isn't already.
In the 80s Warhols portraits were criticised as being superficial, facile and commercial. In retrospect many critics now recognised that the portraits were actually a brilliant mirror of his times.
I could see Banksy accepting the commission just so he could subvert the situation.

Guy Ritchie Commissions Banksy for Madonna Portrait , by bostonlongstroke on Aug 12, 2008 8:37:20 GMT 1, Umm...
I still don't understand why low-mid level art collectors(which encompasses a large portion of this forum's members), get all bent outta shape when a favored artist is commissioned by a celebrity(or anybody with more money than us)?!?!?
Is it similar to how I feel when I see a middle-aged, crusty old D-bag, with 3-5 smokin' hot broads swingin' from his vine, as they all jump into his Maybach???
Cuz, it's just envy... that's all it is! ...I'm just salty cuz I'm not in his position, financially or socially, to have those sort of liberties.
I've found that what makes a great artist isn't just talent... It's how this talent appeals to the masses, and what said masses are willing to pay for it.
If I was a talented artist, gettin' commissioned work requests from the wealthy/celebrities that offer 6-7 figure payouts... I'd probably feel like I had made it. And, that my work wasn't just a means with no end.
I'm sure there have been requests in the past that Banksy has turned down, for whatever reason. But, doesn't the adage go like this, 'strike the iron while it's hot!'?!?!?

Guy Ritchie Commissions Banksy for Madonna Portrait , by bostonlongstroke on Aug 12, 2008 8:52:15 GMT 1, I mean, if word got out that he[Banksy] was complying with a commission request by Kim Jung Il...
...Then I'd think, o-k, of all the folks to be turning down, shouldn't this guy be near the top of the list?
Other than that, I think he's extremely fortunate to be able take a skilled hobby, and turn it into a job that provides him with an affluent lifestyle.
You can't beat havin' a job that you're eager to start, every morning! Great paying jobs, that are great fun... are few and far between!
