Clearly. Maybe you should be sure what people are actually saying before jumping down their throats and throwing insults at them?
Being a 'true artfag' doesn't *have* to make you a total a$$hole y'know...

2nd Cans Festival โข 2008, by Grafter on Aug 20, 2008 22:00:04 GMT 1, I think you've grabbed the wrong end of the proverbial, my old mukker....
What I meant was that some one has already been down there and made that comment about the type of art that the original festival was dedicated to and I was happy and proud to be part of. My original post was meant to point to the fact that I feel that this time around the festival will be handed over to the traditional freehand graffitti style writers who may have felt a bit agreived and left out of the original show.

2nd Cans Festival โข 2008, by edcase on Aug 20, 2008 22:04:13 GMT 1, Well stencil art isn't boring, so f**k off
You are a charming individual aren't you?
Have you considered for a moment you are on the forum for a community largely geared towards stencil art and it's artistry? The guy has merely posted up some of the crappy tagging which has appeared in the tunnel, he didn't write it, and he isn't saying that's his opinion!
For such a niche community compared with some of the forums on for other interests I have (cars etc.) I can't believe how much sniping, bitching and outright hostility there is on here.

In that case, as soon as it is open to the public - I am going to go done there with loads of shit tag stencils and stencil the fuck out of it.
Sorry Grafter - I feel extremely embarrassed, I did get the wrong end of the stick..

I think 99.9% of the readers knew what you meant, I wouldn't feel obliged to explain yourself to people who think it's okay to start throwing insults around at the drop of a hat.

Huh, quite the opposite, I am respecting something I love, which unfortunately makes me attack people who rubbish it. Writing BORING STENCIL ART in Leake Street is the most offensive thing I have seen in a long time. I got the wrong end of the stick with Grafter and have apologised.

Oh and anyone who goes on multiple car forums, I don't really care what you say.

2nd Cans Festival โข 2008, by carlito on Aug 20, 2008 23:13:15 GMT 1, went down the tunnel this afternoon, and it's pretty much tagged to buggery..... There are some nice large new freehand pieces up, and there are some random slogans splattered about. I think this pretty much sums up what this weekend's about....
that looks alot like B's handiwork to me
...that second statement says an awful lot to me about the state of play in this scene today

2nd Cans Festival โข 2008, by mammal2 on Aug 20, 2008 23:42:01 GMT 1, Though to be fair it was THEIR culture. It was Banksy, Goldies, Nick Walkers, The DryBreadZ Crew, Kato, Tes, Harings, Jean-Michel Basquiat, TAKI 183 and more. The trains and walls were theirs. 99% of this board and so called street artists came after. LONG after. It was theres, and thank god because we get to enjoy it, (and its appears so do so many shite online galleries). Banksy always brings it back home. Bring one Cans mark 2 and listen to the master.

2nd Cans Festival โข 2008, by carlito on Aug 20, 2008 23:46:49 GMT 1, I think he's basically making the point that this scene / culture has moved along way from it's roots / from the reasons alot of ppl liked it in the first place / that the culture has been stolen by the highest bidder on ebay / gallery .. etc etc
it was never meant to be like this (queue the psuedo intellectual fine art dwellers of this board telling us how of course it would go in this direction...wellll durhhhhh ... doesn't mean we have to like it )

2nd Cans Festival โข 2008, by mammal2 on Aug 20, 2008 23:56:26 GMT 1, Its happened in 85 with Jean-Michel. However, Banksy knows exactly what he is doing. He broke through as it appealed to Jon Doe, but without a doubt in my mind Banksy talks the talk but he is entrepreneurial. Don't get me wrong I LOVE his work, but the days of Banksy selling art out of Steves boot are LONG gone.

As much as I want to believe it, I don't think it is. In all the pieces I've just nosed through with sprayed freehand writing, a few of the letters look too different - the Y especially.
eg...

2nd Cans Festival โข 2008, by mcster on Aug 21, 2008 8:30:24 GMT 1, I don't really get all of this Street Art vs Graff business, it has echoes of the House / Club scene of the late 80's and early 90's. One minute it's all types of music and very creative, next it's dividing itself into little groups that are so niche it becomes anal and boring (no to mention getting ruined by the masses). IMO if it's artistic and on the street it's all the same thing, just different approaches. It'd be cool to see some varying styles there this time, I don't expect to like everything I see, but that's just fine by me.

I find it quite funny really and the whole hardcore graff V artfag street art is one that will never go away. What makes me laugh more is that the "Boring stencil art" was done with a paint brush and paint! Not very hardcore graff really.

Cans 2 should be good. I thought the writing in the first pic looked like the 'Take This -Society!' and 'What? boy' as soon as I saw it - for what that's worth.
