What a bargain or does it just seem so... D*Face, by Harveyn on Oct 12, 2008 20:52:20 GMT 1, After all the prices i have seen being quoted for D*Face work over the last couple of weeks you have to wonder why this piece sold for only £2947.00.
IMO an absolute bargain but it does make me wonder why people are apparently paying £1.5k plus for a print of £3.5k for a print on canvas.
That said this was a steal.

What a bargain or does it just seem so... D*Face, by Simococo on Oct 12, 2008 21:38:56 GMT 1, I don't think it would fetch 6-7k. Its only 50x50 and his recent giant Haring pieces were just over 7k and they didn't sell immediately. 4k would have been a fair deal though.

What a bargain or does it just seem so... D*Face, by Harveyn on Oct 12, 2008 22:21:31 GMT 1, Back down to £255.
Why can't people just be a little more honest with their pricing. I know for a fact I would have bought a piece last week for £3k but then all the stupid hype started.
I think the DSTQ canvas is easily worth £4k in a sensible market and obviously less in todays uncertain economic climate.
Are we really to believe that some recent Dface sales have bucked todays downward trend?

I couldnt care less about the DSTQ now but i am gutted because i know someone who did not bid because i wanted to and i wish i had spoken with that person about the value first.

What a bargain or does it just seem so... D*Face, by Photoxtc on Oct 12, 2008 22:52:47 GMT 1, Someone got a great deal on this piece, if in fact it did actually sell... We have seen a few cases recently were people are buying their own stuff and then the same piece will pop back on ebay or go straight to auction... Two D*Face canvases that come to mind, one up at auction this month and one on ebay right now
these are both members on here and you just tend to stay away from them and advise anyone wanting to deal with them to do the same....
Mind you, I don't know anything about the DSTQ were talking about here I'm just saying in the past things have been shady and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if this one is the same...

I'm not sure ebay pricing reflects the accurate pricing of the art market, on ANY piece, not just D*. It's merely one component, an indicator of interest perhaps. You had 800 views on that auction, indicating quite a bit of interest compared to 500 views on the Walker triptych that just ended, and compared to 358 views on that Parla litho that just ended.
Many collectors aren't willing to take the risk to purchase art on the Bay, especially less knowledgeable collectors when the bidder did not/could not provide a COA (as in the case of this DSTQ).
It's why galleries and auction houses get higher prices.
Because I know D*s work, I feel quite confident the piece was authentic but if you look at the questions listed on the auction, 2 of the 3 questions were about authenticity.
Someone on this thread said they had planned to bid to 4K and missed the auction's end, I had suggested to another member of this board that 3.5K would have been a good price as well.
No doubt the economy affected the price, but I also believe the DSTQ is not one of the more desirable pieces although a nice piece, the smallish size affected it, the fact that it was on ebay without a COA also shaved a bit off the price as well.
Just like in the case of many artists, ebay prices dont reflect auction prices or gallery prices. The auction results set the the prices and ebay prices and galleries follow suit.
We'll see how the auctions go, heard from a Dreweatts employee that had been a pretty constant stream of people round the D* works over the past couple of days...

What a bargain or does it just seem so... D*Face, by Harveyn on Oct 12, 2008 23:47:18 GMT 1, pfffffffffft can't argue with the points you have made. I own one of these particular canvases and I am a big fan of Dfaces work. I think this went very cheap and for some of the reasons you have pointed out. I think its an iconic piece and will be highly regarding in years to come.
My query is more the inflated prices that have been achieved on Ebay or verbalized on this forum recently. I think auctions on Ebay are extremely poor indicators of current pricing given the numerous ways that auctions can be fixed.
I love Dface's work and think that in many years time he will be regarded as one of a number of contributors to this genre and his works priced accordingly. That said I do not believe the current inflated prices that are being quoted.

What a bargain or does it just seem so... D*Face, by Harveyn on Oct 12, 2008 23:57:13 GMT 1, poptart now back up to over a grand
Someone please explain this to me.
The auction is standing at £1750 approximately and I post that the two bids that have taken it over the £1k mark are zero feedback bidders. The auction then has several bids removed to the point that the leading bidder is at £255. So the third placed bidder who look to be legitimate at £999 with a feed back of 30+ pulled or had their bid canceled also. I can't believe anyone following this auction would bid. This has to be the most blatant example of shill bidding I have ever seen.
Simple facts are that a significant amount of the last couple of weeks hype has been subject to a fair amount of fabrication. This print is worth somewhere between £800 - £1000 in an average market and todays market is poor. Just my opinion of course but remember I am speaking as a Dface fan with several originals in my collection.

Well, I see the inflated pricing on many artists on this board and ebay. I dont think it's just limited to D*. I think many people get ahead of themselves on many artists and believe they themselves can command auction and gallery prices.
But then again I know quite a few people who have also passed on pieces like a Faile box at 3K USD because they felt it too pricey, only to watch one shoot up to 20K usd at auction a few months later.
All I am suggesting is ebay is probably not the best indicator, even when the economy is good, and the upcoming auctions will set the tone for future sales.

In an average market the tarts were going for around 1500 GBP.

What a bargain or does it just seem so... D*Face, by samo on Oct 13, 2008 0:45:42 GMT 1, I have thought about bidding on this piece, but didn't do it in the end. Although it went for a great price. The Pop Tart auction on the other hand looks a bit fishy to me.
Already a few days after the auction started it reached more then £1700 while there also is a Pop Tart on the Bay for a bin price of £1750, and then the retracted bids a few days later some very shill bidding that just doesn't make sense.
I also miss the BRP COA in the sellers description, but still going to follow this one since the seller also comes from Holland.

I was just speaking to the "average market" comparison to current market comparison that harevyn threw out there.
And there are no guarantees but I cant imagine all of them didnt sell.
And I concur, it's been 6 months and a lot has changed but I think we can all agree this is not an average market.

Plus there are no guarantees all those sales were actually completed. Not only that but who's to say what an 'average market' is? I hear that a lot now—as if things will return to the pricing system based on the runaway enthusiasm of the past several years once things 'clear up.' Prices for young & new artists rose at exponential rates the past couple years. But now, there's no guarantee what's going to happen in the next decade once people wake up from this hangover.
Snausages, dont ever respond to me again. You sent me a rather rude and cowardly PM, only to prove to be such an enormous coward that you wouldnt even open my PM in response.
Get lost.

Er, I made a comment on an internet forum about my thoughts. Mind you it was void of personal comments directed towards anyone.
Yet once again you decide to send insult after insult when it's completely uncalled for. Now you, in the past week or two, have called me, rude, cowardly, insecure, pathetic and much much worse. You also go around the forum posting pictures of poop and other absurd nonsense in meager attempts to insult me.
But not only have you insulted me (so many times i care not to count) but you also have the nerve to tell me what to do, where to go and when to post? You? Someone who has to resort to such behaviour has the gall to tell me what I can or can not do and act like you are superior to me?
How ironic. This is the height of absurdity.

What was in my PM to you pales in comparison to the insults you've thrust upon me in numerous threads.
That was that, I did not open your response because I really don't care what you had to say about it and I am not childish enough to get embroiled in some stupid internet PM war with you.

Someone who has to resort to such childish behaviour as you and the have the gall to act like you are superior to others here is the absolute height of absurdity.

What a bargain or does it just seem so... D*Face, by pfffffffffft on Oct 13, 2008 4:06:18 GMT 1, True I sent you a PM, now mind you this came ONLY AFTER the fourth or fifth time you decided to post a picture of poop and other nonsense in a ridiculous attempt to insult me. Instead of dragging another thread further through the mud I sent you a PM instead and suggested you change you behaviour because yup, in my opinion you're only embarrassing yourself. What was in my PM to you pales in comparison to the insults you've thrust upon me in numerous threads. That was that, I did not open your response because I really don't care what you had to say about it and I am not childish enough to get embroiled in some stupid internet PM war with you.
Then I suggest not sending PMs and I also suggest you fuck off. There is no dialogue with you, only your side as evidenced by you sending off a PM yet refusing to open my response.
You are not only childish but cowardly for sending any PM that was rude and then not even so much as opening the one in response.
Again I suggest you both fuck off and get lost if you'd like to avoid future conflict. If you want to avoid the conflict perhaps you shouldnt piss off 80% of the people you come in contact with on these threads. I gave you an easy solution, please dont respond to me. Last call.

What a bargain or does it just seem so... D*Face, by snausages on Oct 13, 2008 4:13:53 GMT 1, Once again you tell me to 'fuck off' and tell me what to do. This comes after your history of stalking me and insulting me dozens of times.
Can you not see how utterly ridiculous and childish you are acting? Seriously. Can you not see how obsessive and controlling you are acting?

I gave you an easy solution but you simply WANT to fight, it's pretty obvious. It's why you fight with everyone on this board.

If you want to fight, and take it off the board then be enough of a man to open your PMs after taking a shot. If not then fuck off.

What a bargain or does it just seem so... D*Face, by pfffffffffft on Oct 13, 2008 4:20:04 GMT 1, That was six months ago a lot has happened in that time. Plus there are no guarantees all those sales were actually completed. Hopefully this thread can return to the topic at hand? As I said: Not only that but who's to say what an 'average market' is? I hear that a lot now—as if things will return to the pricing system based on the runaway enthusiasm of the past several years once things 'clear up.' Prices for young & new artists rose at exponential rates the past couple years. But now, there's no guarantee what's going to happen in the next decade once people wake up from this hangover.
