Is Morons Now Banksy's Iconic Image, by Cocteau 101 on Oct 15, 2008 23:35:37 GMT 1, Bored of the bad economic news Bored of the bleating about bad auction prices Bored of people saying that they knew the bubble would burst when they've been selling prints for ages
So following on from the iconic What Art Does Banksy Collect thread here's another!
Is Morons now becoming Banksy's iconic image?
Yes I know we all love Laugh Now, Happy Choppers etc but is Morons becoming the epitome of all that Banksy represents and as a result the image that is becoming the most recognised.
Let the debate begin.

ยฃ6500 is still a bit of a shock though

Is Morons Now Banksy's Iconic Image, by bradpitt on Oct 15, 2008 23:58:32 GMT 1, I think people relate to this image well at auction and enjoy buying for an expensive laugh at themselves. For a real Banksy fan I think the older images are closer to peoples hearts, the rats win for me bringing back fond memories of them appearing everywhere.
And yes, I am totally bored of those things you mentioned

Is Morons Now Banksy's Iconic Image, by Cocteau 101 on Oct 16, 2008 0:26:57 GMT 1, Paul, we've got to keep it in the city mate and Bill Kenwrights not getting anymore of my money so a move into the debt ridden worls of football is some way off. It was an idea we had in the pub as all the best ones are, my mates firm is doing a lot of the architectural regeneration work around there and we thought it would be a great thing to do. We are serious we just need to work out the some of the details.
Amazingly there is still an intact Gangster Rat in the town centre that someone has not managed to angle grind out of the wall yet. We are also trying to get that perspexed by the owner.

Is Morons Now Banksy's Iconic Image, by dmandpenfold on Oct 16, 2008 8:31:29 GMT 1, Nice one guys, yeh rats for me too, a few of us are thinking of buying the building in Liverpool that is up for sale as a development opportunity with the giant rat/cat on it to save it from being knocked down. My mate is an architect and we reckon we could convert the building and save the image relatively intact. We just need the Banksy tag from the pen either returned (which I doubt) or replaced (which we are trying to work on) and a sensible discussion with the current owners.
good effort mate, hope this project comes off, keep us up to date

I sold my US Morons to put the money towards the QV.
Rats are iconic in the sense that you think Banksy you think Rats...but is the image powerful? Is there a real message?

Actually, The Whitehouse would be a good buy. It is in the right area and ideal for regeneration. Good luck.

Is Morons Now Banksy's Iconic Image, by Gentle Mental on Oct 16, 2008 9:18:58 GMT 1, Girl with balloon (and its various incarnations) is pretty darn iconic (especially when done on walls of torn countries of forgotten children...) never thought street art can go that far beyond juvenile posturing till that one.
(wish he could do one where i'm at... boy have i got a wall for him!!!)

Is Morons Now Banksy's Iconic Image, by alvington89 on Oct 16, 2008 9:42:52 GMT 1, Amazing how everyone keeps mentioning the rats. These have always seemed to be overlooked compared to some of his other prints. I've always rated these very highly. Worthless rat first with Gangsta rat second. Morons is a great print though and one which I missed out on despite trying for most of the day.
