Slowmo and Slammer thanks for the insight, I really hope your speculation is right.
I would love to see more Micallef prints but from what this thread has brought I assume that its still all in the air.

One thing must be sure, no more releasing thousands or even hundreds at once

why did someone have to go and lower the tone by putting the thought of sharon osbourne in everyones minds?!?!
had the most unfortunate displeasure of having to endure an awful film last night - 'a boy girl thing' - Sharon Osbourne in it as the guys mum - the worst piece of casting and acting ever! she stands out a mile! worth watching just for the 'what the fuck!' value!
ps - this cant be the end for Mic, more coming defo
the story cant end with me in negative equity on my Uzi's that i and i alone love!

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see a print release for a while yet and certainly no huge releases like GIWTBB.

What exactly was expected when he released MORE prints at the same time than his entire back catalogue of prints to a market falling over themselves to buy them?

Fully agree with that. I'm not sure what was expected to happen, but no one could have believed they'd all or even most would end up with fans.

i think you're right - it was well intentioned.
The Q was not well managed.
(releasing the print while there were plenty of folks standing
in the cold - is something a lot of people are not going to forget
in a hurry.)
The LA show went off well by all accounts.
How to move forward after such highs and lows can
be tricky - ... but I'm sure the mans inherent talent will
shine through even if a couple of hiccups are gone
through on the way - can't be all peachy smooth.

I kinda agree, but unfortunatly the benchmark has been set.
Any prints through Laz will need to be ยฃ5k+ for an edition of 25, which means I will not own another micallef!

He is a very talented artist and I suspect this will help him concentrate on what he really wants to do. At the end of the day, he must have made a lot of money and this should give him a strong base/confidence to do what he wants.
I for one, was hoping this would have an effect on his originals so I could afford to buy one, no such luck. I think Micallef is here for the long run. IMO one of the few people I think we will still be talking about in ten years time.

Trouble was the managing of the release and the managing of the artist. If they wanted all fans to have one they should have made it unlimited (but then I guess ยฃยฃยฃยฃ is king.). Greed will be the downfall of many a artist and this greed is normally driven by a 3rd party, imo.

All the prints sold out so he's got all the cash he was expecting.
Yet to see a GIWTBB go for less than cost on secondary market, and the other 4 Laz prints were way overpriced in my book so its no surprise they can go for less than the ยฃ1k they were sold at.
I reckon he's laughing about it!

If a bunch of people bought his art to sell at a quick profit, then so what. It doesn't diminish the quality of his work.
For those that wish to continue collecting his work, it will be a sad day if he chooses not to release another print. His canvases will be way beyond my reach.
