Yes, but if you like it buy it. I buy a lot of art knowing it will never sell for what I paid for it. But its also the same when you buy a nice car or TV, yeah?

Could have brought several signed Banksy prints I didnโt particularly like for the same amount as the eelus canvas.
Still have and love the canvas but i doubt its worth much more than I paid for it.
Buy stuff you like, not to get rich.

I really liked his earlier darker works, that was obviously influenced by 80's horror.
I'm glad I'm not artist in the public eye, it must be a fuckin tough gig.

I really loved some of his horror papercuts. Especially The Thing. I don't know how commercially successful they were, but they were really nice. I can't think of many rainbows in classic horror. And yeah, it must be hard being an artist, not only having to come up with ideas, but finding that balance between making the stuff you want to make, and making the stuff that sells well. I think there's still an inherent darkness to Eelus's work. Despite the odd rainbow popping up. I mean, this stairs thing is actually quite depressing. |
