I agree, considering the size of the originals, 18x18 isn't going to be great is it?
Still a decent price, but I think people might have been prepared to pay a bit more for a bigger image.

Still a decent price, but I think people might have been prepared to pay a bit more for a bigger image. On the other side of the argument though, the 3 pieces were designed to be hung as a trypich, and trying to squeeze 3x 3ft sqare pieces onto a wall in most folks houses just wouldn't work, a limited, affordable, wall friendly release, I can honestly find nothing to complain about. Choe aint the flippers fave, and some will always find something to complain about. They were the standout pieces from the london show and you know they will be 110% or they wouldn't have been released by outer edge, Andrew is famous for his exacting nature and inflexibility when it comes to substandard releases.

That's fair enough, and I see what you mean about total size, but as someone who loves the images, I am less inclined to buy it.
I don't know why you started talking about flippers though, and I am not complaining, just giving my reasons for not buying it. *shrugs*. I don't doubt the quality of the print, but IMO the image deserves a larger space to let it shine.

No problem Spencer, as someone who loves the images I was happy to take the only oportunity I would get and buy from a print house that prides itself on exacting quality and artist approval. I wasnt lucky enough to see them in the flesh, only online, so guess I'll be happy not knowing what I am missing. The flipper comment wasnt directed at any one individual, but the last few choe releases have met with some considerable derission from certain quarters. I bought neither of the obama prints as they did nowt for me but decided not to comment and leave folk to their own opinions.

Cool, though you quoted me, I wasn't sure whether you were making a general point, which I think you were.
I'm just now saving up for that horse which looks amazing....

NEW David Choe prints release 9/16, by Heavyconsumer on Sept 18, 2008 11:48:36 GMT 1, Let's face it, the flippers got burned by Choe releases in the past 8/9 months or so and that's why so many people's "tastes" have changed overnight. I just got back from London where I picked up some prints from my address there. Choe's images were superb in the flesh for the first time and pleased me more than anything else I had waiting. Even the one I had buyers remorse over, FFG, also looked pretty splendid up close, although I admit I still left it behind, as I've over-purchased and definitely prefered Hoppers and Silent Dance. The guys work is a cut above most and his prints come up trumps in terms of image quality from what I've seen so far.
Well done to all who got these. I was caught snoozing this time, but can't really spare the cash right now anyway, so that's probably a good thing.

NEW David Choe prints release 9/16, by lee3 on Sept 18, 2008 16:46:46 GMT 1, the paintings are beautiful... but i imagine these, through size and medium, are going to be a pretty poor representation of them
Personally, I don't collect or hang prints. However, I own the Choe City Girl painting which Andrew made a print run from and was kind enough to give me one of the run (i believe it was a series of 150 but don't quote me on that). I didn't know how to store it, so I just took it to the framer and had him do it up with museum glass. The level of detail in that print when compared with the original is astonishing and there are things my wife and I both notice in the more focused reproduction (print) and then take a closer inspection of the original. Naturally, my preferance is for the original but I must say that Andrew did a ridiculously good job preparing that print (esopecially given all the small nuances and details of Choe's work) and presume he's done the same in this case.
On the other hand, I've seen numerous prints over the years of other artists that come NOWHERE close to the level of detail that Andrew gets with his craft. They really do a wonderful job.

Do you reckon David Choe would join the six-figure club if you put your City Girl painting up for auction? That would really be elite for his genre. Not saying you should or will put it up for auction, but just hypothetically.

We're not going to know the answer to that question anytime soon. I think there are much better odds that I donate it to a museum many moons from now.

I hope we do, as i really want the set!
I wouldnt be suprised if these go below cost! Surely flippers know that Choe is for walls and not for flippin! I might have a chance of pickin these up yet! With such a small run, a few preordered and the rest sold so quickly, and due to the previous burning the flippers received with choe, I dont honestly think we will see too many of these up for sale. I hope we do, as i really want the set!
