Artist interviews Vol. 1: Ripper1331, by ร
gentรacardi on Jun 25, 2007 18:47:37 GMT 1, Hey everybody!
We now have a new feature: Exclusive Artist Interviews! Every issue, we will turn the spotlight on one particular artist, and we urge all you members to post questions that you'd like to ask that artist. Y'know, could be questions like "How did you get started?", "Who or what would you consider your influences", "What was your inspiration behind this piece?", stuff like that. Post them right here in this thread! After about a week (according to the response), we will select a good number of the questions (Y'know, just in case there are 500 questions, the artist probably wouldn't like to sit through all of them!) and present them to the featured artist. He will then answer them by making a post on here, after which you members are free to discuss if you wish. Sort of a "meet and greet" session between our favorite artists (who post here) and their fans.
For our inaugural interview, our featured artist is none other than Ripper1331!! You all loved his Crucipods. Now's your chance to find out more about the man behind the art! He's a big fan of sharing techniques and methodologies too, so feel free to fire away!
Now, let's see those questions for Ripper1331! Post 'em right here! ;D
(I've always had this idea, but never did anything about it. Big cheers to Johnas for pushing me enough to set the wheels in motion!)

Artist interviews Vol. 1: Ripper1331, by Dellboyy on Jul 2, 2007 14:34:21 GMT 1, How do you feel about the current ebay reselling market? Does it bother you that people may be buying your art just to resell for a profit, or would you be happy with the increased awareness this may bring for your art?

Artist interviews Vol. 1: Ripper1331, by Ripper1331 on Jul 2, 2007 20:25:43 GMT 1, Thanks for all the questions - I'll try to get through them in between meetings today.
Any ideas for the next print?
Yes - it's at the printers right now and details will be coming soon.
First car was a 1977 ford Thunderbird with miles of velour inside. Current car is a 2002 Ford Escape with no velour inside.
My favorite car I've had was a 1973 Porsche 914 that I restored when I first moved to California. Literally drove that thing to death.

Artist interviews Vol. 1: Ripper1331, by Ripper1331 on Jul 2, 2007 20:30:47 GMT 1, Hi Ripper * Are you a full time artist? * At what age did you 'know' that you wanted art to be your life/living * What was the first piece you ever did and where was it? btw, well done AgentB.... i knew you'd get round to it!
If I was a full time artist I would need a nicer car as that's what I would be living in! The art is hobby and has been for almost 8 years now.
Always been into making art of various types but kind of left it all behind during college and then made a drunken New Years Eve resolution to pick it back up again and here we are now.
I don't think I would want to live off of art oddly. I really really enjoy doing it - so much so I wouldn't want to turn it into a job.
First piece I ever did - I'm Canadian so it would be writing my name in the snow.

Artist interviews Vol. 1: Ripper1331, by Ripper1331 on Jul 2, 2007 21:14:44 GMT 1, Hands down the person that has had the most effect is Jamie Reid.
I grew up with early 80's punk and my walls were covered in gig flyers that were a direct result of his work with the Pistols. The snide commentary and the rough visual look are still appealing to me today.
Standard question, who are your inspirations and how do you think this has affected your work.

Artist interviews Vol. 1: Ripper1331, by Ripper1331 on Jul 2, 2007 21:24:29 GMT 1, Good question. Painting 1946 by Francis Bacon. 1- because it's amazing 2 - because I don't think like that but I would like to understand how something like that forms in your head and translates to a finshed work.
Of course this answer changes all the time depending on what I'm feeling.
if you could have done any piece by any other artist what would it have been? (like when you think 'damm i wish i thought of that!')
