Faile Show - Lost in Glimmering Shadows, by jones27 on Nov 11, 2008 14:56:18 GMT 1, Im a Faile fan and like many other fans I went to the new show and absolutely loved what I saw. But did the show (or Laz for that matter) do enough in attracting and converting more people into Faile fans. We all hear the pre show hype off secondary sellers (buy now before next months show when they become massive)...But outside of this forum and the odd auction there is relatively little interest and ebay prices are continuing to fall. I just wonder how many more people are into Faile.

very good points made, there wasnt much of an effort done to try and get brand new faile fans from outside the street art genre, but its starting to happen with other artists, just look at what adam neate is doing - thats bound to get a few people interested that didnt know much about him before, and also banksy in new york, taking the work out of the galleries and to the people, not just the few that are interested in street art and would know where to look in the normal areas where the art would be found, but to places with a mass of people, and on the largest scale possible

We all hear the pre show hype off secondary sellers (buy now before next months show when they become massive)...But outside of this forum and the odd auction there is relatively little interest and ebay prices are continuing to fall. I just wonder how many more people are into Faile. Looking at the auction record the prices at the show are outstripping the secondary market. That's not how the art market is meant to work. Meanwhile if you like Faile buy at auction and not at a show because the prices are lower and look to remain that way for a while.
I wonder how many of those canvases were presold on the back of the Tate exhibition, if Laz are doing their job it should have been quite a reasonable percentage of the show sales. The boxes look reasonably priced though which is probably why they sold out so fast.

Faile Show - Lost in Glimmering Shadows, by bobbymeachamjr on Nov 12, 2008 4:09:13 GMT 1, I agree w/the Laz pricing vs auction. However, theres been a ton of mediocre to pathetic pieces showing up at auction...

Faile Show - Lost in Glimmering Shadows, by oneeye on Nov 12, 2008 8:05:09 GMT 1, There hasn't been any Faile piece at any auction on this scale. 10 feet by almost 8 feet. If these were to be put into an auction they would surpass what Laz was asking by a long shot. Considering the scope of these canvases, I thought they were very fairly priced. And I agree the boxes were the best buy of the show. Some of the palettes were pretty impressive as well.

Faile Show - Lost in Glimmering Shadows, by bobbymeachamjr on Nov 12, 2008 21:19:08 GMT 1, maybe so/maybe not but thats pure speculation re: large canvases Personally, I don't value art purely on size. I'll take any of the nyc 07 show canvases over these...
Cheers

Faile Show - Lost in Glimmering Shadows, by afroken on Nov 13, 2008 18:01:32 GMT 1, The last Faile of a comparable size to sell at auction went for ยฃ103,000. That was one of their best though.

Faile Show - Lost in Glimmering Shadows, by chief on Nov 13, 2008 18:56:03 GMT 1, Ive been to that studio recently, I couldn't imagine the scale of those things in there.
I was not a fan of FAILE before these new works, but I am now...maybe it's the Native American influence?
Great stuff.

Amen brother, I'll second that. I'd take those screen printed canvas over these new hand painted ones simply out of imagery and composition. I have to say though their talent as artist's is really shining with the execution from their recent show.

That's what it says on the poster "and in the darkness they FAILED to stay up" and at the bottom it says "History is made once again. It should have been a STENCIL"

Any idea who put these up? they seem like an obvious swipe at people nicking street pieces from Faile.
