DFace Statue Of Liberty Print, by loucastel on Oct 2, 2008 22:40:19 GMT 1, I dont see how my opinion would change seeing them in person, as the subject matter would still be the same, apart from they would obviously be a lot bigger. I would be interested to hear your opinion on what makes them so good, and why my take on the work may change seeing them in person? its because its D Face and you are supposed to like it DUH. It is so intellectually stimulating, black not.For whatever this crap costs I want it to be so smart and stimulating that i my brain to tingles, like back in the day on ecstacy.
Many apologies, I didnt realise, I will go this instant and make obeyance to the artist known as D-face and flagellate myself accordingly!!

ยฃ450. very nice print up close, looks like a lot of work went into the printing and etching.

DFace Statue Of Liberty Print, by sahoria on Oct 2, 2008 22:44:01 GMT 1, hence the name dface... thought was amazing show... one of the best i have been to this year... surprising how some people are on here but the people that went seemed to have enjoyed it... thought the work was really stunning and seen alot of orange dots so very happy for d* and brp...
it was something new not just walking into gallery but going from room to room and was something i wasnt expecting but enjoyed.... final was the actual gallery space and every piece of work i saw there i liked...
theres always going to be two sides... one side saying i told you so nothing there at all and other side saying how impressed they was with the show and the artwork... loved the spiderman canvas (large one) really liked the print...didnt when i saw photo on the computer but when i was there had to get... the american depress gold looked stunning also...lol... fav piece of the show either the large superman or superman it feels so good...
nice to meet up with few on here also... the show was packed out and think in the end was fantastic turn out and prices i thought was ok for the size... everyone i was speaking to was impressed and the amount of work that went into each art piece must have been alot... the little details of seeing artwork on old comic books thought was fantastic also...
for me again have to say one of the best shows i have went to... s

A lot of work & money went into the Scottish Parliament building also but that still does not stop it looking worse than a pile of sh1te!

DFace Statue Of Liberty Print, by slowmo on Oct 2, 2008 22:50:48 GMT 1, Be warned, seeing this show from any more than a 30 minute journey will feel like a real waste of time. I own some dface, buy the old stuff, the d-dog, the a-hole, the hate's. Do not go anywhere near this stuff! I really cannot think of a worse show.
As for the originality of the experience when walking in, ok fair enough, but get signed up to punch drunk theatre and go and see their next show, far more impressive. I will stop now, no more negative comments, but this was not a good show at all.
I'm sorry, I know art is subjective, I am sure many think I am talking crap, but I truly cannot believe this was a good show.
MODIFY - I am critiquing this show based on having been tonight, it looks better online (the pixellation of some work is clear to see on close inspection)

So have you been to the show JBoy? Thought you said you were going later in the week. Surely an opinion of 'dislike' without seeing it in the flesh and an opinion of 'very much like' without seeing it in the flesh are exactly the same, just difference of opinion!

DFace Statue Of Liberty Print, by buffin on Oct 2, 2008 22:56:32 GMT 1, Just back in the mild mild west from a quick trip up to the big city to see this show. I enjoyed it and there are some lovely pieces there. I'm sure that photos will not do it justice as unless you are standing in front of them you do not see all the layers. Loved the ones on layers of billboard posters and the American Depress pieces. Didn't all float my boat but have to say one of the best shows I've been to this year.

DFace Statue Of Liberty Print, by sahoria on Oct 2, 2008 23:03:33 GMT 1, slowmo - your entitled to have your opinion that is what forums are supposed to be about... sure some might not like but i really enjoyed... from not knowing when i was there in the morning i am very happy i travelled the 2hrs to get there...
... no one can judge art for you so suggest anyone thinking of going to do so and make up your own minds rather than just taking what we say (both fans and not fans)....if art didnt create discussion think would be rather boring... s

But you have formed an opinion on work you aint seen in the flesh yet! Same as most on ere, so what makes a negative opinion less valid than a positive opinion if if both opinions are based on the same images seen via screen. Not being arsey, just interested to know how you differentiate the two.

DFace Statue Of Liberty Print, by manchestermike on Oct 3, 2008 9:17:38 GMT 1, As I've not been down to it I'm not allowed an opinion but if I was allowed one I'd say, and I'm speaking as a big, big fan of D's early work...
I was really looking forward to seeing this show seeing what new direction D* was going to take. There was all talk before of him pushing boundaries forward in this show, of really upping his game. While technically it looks like his best work yet, the subject matter is as old and boring as hell. It's all and I mean ALL been done before and ALL been done better by others, it just seems to me the ideas have gone. Yes the works may look good from what I've seen on screen (although some are pixellated up close I believe) but where is anything new? Maybe it's just because I expected much, much more from D* but for me it's a huge let down, I'm sure the actual show (like all BRP shows) was fantastic though, but I'm just so disappointed with the ideas and the art
EDIT: Added to the above and looking through the photos again... I think it's the whole superheroes / marvel comics theme that has put me off more than anything

DFace Statue Of Liberty Print, by ed on Oct 3, 2008 9:53:00 GMT 1, i agree with MM.
It was hinted that this was going to be a big departure from D, which we've had in the past.
Looking at alot of the early stuff there was a very clear jump from the D*Dog and Soldier work into focusing on attacking brands, consumorism and general reworks of images with skulls and wings. Great, loved it.
I remember posts a few months ago saying "if i see another f*ckin wing on a picture...." and saw alot of wings on pictures last night.
I know that we're looking at an artist under too much of a microscope i guess and that these days are the first days where an artists work is scrutinised immediatly without sometimes the perspective of understanding a career and progression through themes, but i was still left flat.
Visually it was a stunning show, lots of bright colours, lots of big pictures, cute ideas. And if i was forced into deriving meaning from it i would say that perhaps D has used super heroes as a metaphor (?) for society, in that we idolise things and put people up on a mantle and need figures we can look up to, when really beneath it all they are as human, flawed and destructable as us.
But in terms of a giant leap forward? If i was a kid i would of loved that show, but i'm not, and i think it was childish.
Edit: Although i did get a shiny silver D Dog balloon and carry it all the way home on two tubes and a train to bristol...then on my bike home. That probably made me look pretty childish and for future reference, taking a piss when you're trying to stop your helium balloon flying off is tough!
