stolenspace - poor show, by Macdeee on Jun 29, 2007 8:29:04 GMT 1, I can agree, it was a bit of a shambles. I was lucky enough to get the D*print... Only just. And I really felt for the rest of you guys who were further back in the queue when they said only 50 were being sold. They should have told everyone that in the first place and some sort of ticket system would have worked better I reckon.
I saw no one push in (I think a small riot would have occured if that had happened) All the shmoozers at the front were there for the free drinks.
Still, there was free beer and some pretty good art. Im afraid queueing and waiting at computers and frustration and dissapointment is just a part of the art world these days.

stolenspace - poor show, by jam on Jun 29, 2007 8:44:19 GMT 1, My mate got threatened because he dobbed a guy in who was giving his kids money to get prints as well. The stolenspace staff asked him which bit in the room the print was of and he could not answer, so they took them all off him and asked him to leave. On the way out the guy said he would be waiting outside for him and he was, we had to hide for 45 minutes. Brilliant!
This is a great story... I am impressed with the stolenspace staff for giving the guy das boot. What kind of turd Q's for that long and brings people to buy prints as well, and does not even know what the print is of! To the guys that got the last few prints, you owe an extra thanks to the stolenspace staff!

stolenspace - poor show, by menace2sobriety on Jun 29, 2007 9:39:11 GMT 1, I dont feel like i owe any thanks to Stolenspace!
My story is much the same as eveybody elses who was unfortunate and missed out.
Took a 1/2 day off work, travelled 95 miles especially to get a D Face print, joined the queue and counted that i was in the mid/late 50's. Though "no probs.. 75 prints". 2 and a half hours later i was told it was only 50 as 25 had been given to family and friends. Why didnt they annouce that only 50 would be available on the day?
Total shower of shit IMO
Only good thing is that i can spend the £150 on getting another print framed!!!

stolenspace - poor show, by Copyright on Jun 29, 2007 9:52:10 GMT 1, I wasnt their for the print rush, just to have a look.
Worst show ive been to this year. Didnt enjoy it at all, just a crazy pile up with nothing holding it together. Im not saying the art was bad, their were some rather lovely small pencil drawings, just the show was bad.

stolenspace - poor show, by tommcjay on Jun 29, 2007 9:56:43 GMT 1, same as everyone for me. I waited for 2hrs to then be told that they had only sold 50 prints - might have been an idea to tell us that before waiting, because even i could have worked out that there were more than 50 people in front of me!
Met some cool people from here though and had a few beers so not too bad!

stolenspace - poor show, by finsburyparkranger on Jun 29, 2007 10:19:45 GMT 1, There is a lesson to be learned from that experience. Give the first 50 people a ticket and sort the rest out with a free beer, discount voucher and a word of an apology. Oh and have more than one person on the till! Its good PR and its going to make you more money at the end of the day. Often these gallery's amaze me with their total failure to capatalise with hundreds of their target audience right where they want them. Crazy. When I'm at these gigs all i need is someone that knows what their talking about and who's prepared to spend ten minutes with me and they'll no doubt have another sale. OR if you're just on the peace and love vibe then make sure every one knows about the bloomin charity behind the print. Its really not that hard to do these things right.

stolenspace - poor show, by mcnuts on Jun 29, 2007 10:48:30 GMT 1, Woke up this morning and feel like s**t thanks to a completley miserable experiance last night at Stolenspace. To make things worse, am currently staring at a blank space on my wall where a bright new D Face should now be hanging.... Saying that , i've now got 150 unused pounds in my pocket and am seriously thinking of going back to get a Incredible Sulk..... WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME.... ?
Still sounds like an ok deal to me. Pain in the ass to wait but at least you 1) woke up 2) woke up with money 3) didnt wake up to a city bombed by some c*nts
So, all in all, not a bad day Sun is shining and I'm in front of my computer. Yay.

stolenspace - poor show, by a4mnt on Jun 29, 2007 12:32:13 GMT 1, Sorry to hear that quite a few people didn't have a good time last night. Thats not so good. I was quite amazed at the length of the queue in the end and the fact that someone has already sold a Dface for £450.
I was 7th in the queue and got there at 3.30, which felt quite excessive at the time. Met Finsburyparkranger, two people behind me in the queue, complete with folding chair and cool box full of beer. So the drinking started early, hence my rotten hangover now.
I got number 12, so being 7th in the queue, that meant that the first 5 were held back. If anyone had n# 75 or so, then that mean 25 weren't held back, though that was the initial rumour that 25 were going overseas. Anyway, maybe it was 5?
Not had a chance to check the print, so no idea how it fared on my drunken journey home, but no end cap...not good! I was constantly worried someone would spill a beer into it.
The first 11 people were given a free Dface emroidered £10 note, which is a bonus. I might try spending it later.
So without gloating (sorry), I had a great time. Me and FPR found Discoduster as well and much beer/vodka c**ktails were consumed. I got right into the party spirit and vaguely remember saying goodbye to DD, meeting Frankie and have no recollection of saying goodbye to FPR (did we walk to Liverpool St together? no idea..... ) I know we went to another bar but after that...blank. I'm sure some pics will surface.
Met Spidey as well. Great to meet some forum members, shame we didn't find more. And the girl at the gallery, Beth is it, is cute.
No-one has mentioned the Chloe Early canvas? I thought it was great. The Conor Harringtons were good, glad to see he's moved away from the man in shirt theme, though FPR was sure that Napoleon or whoever the main pic was, did have a shirt on. More a tunic I'd say. Anyway, more Chloe Early love I think.....if I had £1900 burning a hole in my pocket I'd have bought her canvas.
Right, back to nursing this awful hangover - i feel like s**t!!

stolenspace - poor show, by a4mnt on Jun 29, 2007 12:48:16 GMT 1, When I got there i asked the 6 people in front of me if they were DD, as he was threatening to be there at 3pm. FPR had already said he was bringing a chair, so when he sat down, I figured it was him.
He then shouted at the queue behind us, asking if anyone was DD and he was right next to us i think, though not sure as I was getting essential supplies from the Big Chill bar.
Once I met FPR and DD, the time flew by. ;D

stolenspace - poor show, by ®at on Jun 29, 2007 14:39:02 GMT 1, Some guy I think from the gallery, went down the line before it opened and counted 50. I am presuming he then told the people there where the cutoff point was. At least he should have!?? The initial info released said 50, but then people (including myself) phoned stolenspace and they said 75- neglecting to mention that some would be held back. So the original info of 50 was correct and SS seem to have dropped a bollock by confusing people.
The response on the forums should have given an indication of how popular it was going to be! If you missed out, you should have tried to get there earlier...but then, with a limited edition, some people will always miss out and be disappointed.
Free beer and cd was a nice touch too. What wasn't good, was opening late, and then taking waaaaaaaaay too long to process peoples payments. Had somewhere to go and was rather late.
Its an awesome print too so worth it in the end.

Oh yeah, i forgot there was a free CD.
I'm just remembering that we stood near the check out and drunkenly oohed and aaahed at everyones numbers on their tubes as they walked away. Stupid, but good fun.
I tried to swap my number 12 for a ladies number 23, but she was having none of it - which is probably a good idea as i have a receipt for number 12....

Yes the line was horrible and took forever but hey - there was heaps of free booze and some great pieces of art.
I had just one gripe - yes I was about 20 people from the front and managed to easily (well besides the long wait) get a print however -
I did notice one guy in particular who, after letting 2 mates in front of him - palmed of 3 lots of £150 pound notes to some spanish looking birds he had with him.
Now if this was payment for the foursome last night then fair enough however it was clear that these young lass's has no idea what was going on.
I think he was the one that it all came to a head with as the prints were running low?? Anyway low and behold I notice a picture posted on the forum with his smug bagging little face on it so I thought it best to name and shame so here goes -
