antony micallef, by scavos on Sept 14, 2007 14:13:09 GMT 1, Well as I was looking at the new prints via the link I was thinking 'I'm gonna have to say I don't like them' fully expecting to be the only one saying it! I scroll down and I now feel like I'm jumping on the bandwagon. Hey ho! Personally, I find these rather cynical and disappointing. Peacekeeper is the more impressive image but I wouldn't have that up on my wall. Not sure if there will be any other prints at the show but I'd be disappointed if I was going to discover this was it.

I'm not feeling the Improvised Minotaur, Peacekeeper is nice but I'm not sure I'd want it on my wall. The Uzi Lovers' are the pick for me.

antony micallef, by Strange Al on Sept 14, 2007 14:16:13 GMT 1, Wow - this release is going to be really interesting. Not because the prints are great, but for the very opposite reason. They're just so disappointing IMO. I'm a massive Mic fan, but 3 of the 4 just leave me absolutely cold. I'll reserve final judgment until I've seen them in the flesh, but don't hold out much hope.
I think most of us could have guessed that "Peacekeeper" was going to be among the release and I have no doubt that it will be the most popular of the set by far. Though I'm not sure I even like that one enough to queue up for hours in the hope of getting one. Something to ponder over the next few days.

(Unless there are some specials like the Girl In The Red Dress that only go to 'imprtant' people!) Feel a little better now that I am not going to the show!

I hear there is a print being released for a few 'exclusives' ....
but just checked out the 4 being released, can't see many people keeping these, 21st century love on steroids, more lame disney logos, I think old Mica has overcooked these. Bring back vintage mica. The only good thing is that all the eyestorm/pow prints we all have are still the keepers, this lot will be all over ebay like a rash!

antony micallef, by mcmcmc on Sept 14, 2007 14:45:59 GMT 1, I quite like Peacekeeper, maybe I'd love it in the flesh, but I am not sure I would queue overnight for it. My wife works round the corner but I could imagine that if you got there at 9am the queue would be enormous? If you got there at 6am do you think she could score me Peacekeeper?

antony micallef, by douknowawhiskysnob on Sept 14, 2007 14:48:03 GMT 1, Has there been a positive post yet? I'll be brave - I like Uzi lover 1 & 2 and Peacekeeper and would happily give wall space at home to them. My take is that they are 'safe' Micallef's, following a similar artistic trend of earlier successful prints like 21CL.
It appears that all that have contributed thus far to this thread would have liked to see Micallef progress further with this set of print releases, which is understandable considering the last lot of affordable prints (the Opus / Eyestorm releases) were released over a year ago and the new Lazinc prints aren't pushing any new boundaries...BUT...for those that don't own a Micallef print (me) and with the Opus / Eyestorm prints being out of the reach of many now with the surge in prices, the new set of Lazinc releases provides a lot of people with an opportunity to own a Micallef print at a reachable price.
I agree with an earlier post that it would have been nice to see a new charcoal portait print thrown into the mix - the four new prints are very much the same in design.
My guess is that these will sell out very quickly on both sides of the pond - whether buyers that are truly interested in Micallef will buy them is another matter! I hope that a good number of people that genuinely want a Micallef get the opportunity to pick one up before they sell out.

antony micallef, by Deleted on Sept 14, 2007 14:54:45 GMT 1, I do think they they look lovely and would like to have one for my wall. But would I spend a small fortune on one? no!
I have to say they aren't as good as I expected. Seems to me as if they are not particulary thought out, lacking depth. Just another edition to the Micallef brand. It seems like he has chucked in some well known and popular icons i.e. guns, horns , corporate logo's for the sake of it.
nice, but not earth shattering.
Saying this, I haven't seen them all, so...........
