So just speculation from a whistleblower then IMO - maybe a few prints did go walkies back when they were nor so strict and they were £40
Think this has been blown out of all proportion looking back - and the blatant allegations of certain people leaving to setup print houses were very specific!!
hope they were well considered and your 'source' is not someone out to cause misschief

POW Update on Ebay Fraud, by savilerogue on Sept 27, 2007 20:10:51 GMT 1, I don't know why everyone's blowing their load over this latest development.
I don't believe a word of it, it contradicts the earlier statement and the claim that they have carried out a thorough investigation in such a short timescale - have they f***.
I'll greet the statements from both sides with a pinch of salt until things become clearer.

POW Update on Ebay Fraud, by sham69 on Sept 28, 2007 9:40:35 GMT 1, Looks like POW are covering their backs and rather than it get messy trying to brush it under the carpet, re the line 'non issued fraudulently' .
Also if 11 prints are not deemed as being 'serial' I hate to see their definition of a serial killer is.

POW Update on Ebay Fraud, by Stella Dore on Sept 28, 2007 12:18:27 GMT 1, I would just like to let you all know that I have never sold any fraudulant Banksy prints. POW have been investigating this 'story' for sometime and are satisfied that this is the case. I have worked extremly hard to support this scene and the artists in it, often to the detriment of my personal life so to suggest that I would do something to undermine my work to make a quick buck is hurtful and untrue. I would like the Art Newspaper to reveal the identity of their 'Whistleblower' as I believe the motive of this person would soon become clear. It seems very conveniently timed to cause as much disruption to my new venture as possible. One fact that hasn't been made public is that this 'Whistleblower' will not stand up in court should a libel case be bought, surely this alone proves their 'evidence' to be questioned before being printed as fact. I am happy to answer any questions people have on this matter, I have nothing to hide and hope that people will continue to support myself and Stella Dore despite this attempt to ruin my reputation.
Kind regards,
Steph Warren

Thanks for clearing that up Steph, it does seem like people are trying to destroy confidence in you, and at least you had the guts to come out and make a statement.
I don't really get POWs statement, something seems a bit odd with it, but I can't put my finger on it.

POW Update on Ebay Fraud, by Stella Dore on Sept 28, 2007 12:31:26 GMT 1, I can't comment on exact prints but as POW said there are no fradulant prints we are to assume all are genuine. Thanks for your support, I have been terrified to look on here the past couple of days, not because I've done anything wrong but because of the 'guilty until proven innocent' culture of our fair land! I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised however by the support from the majority. Many, many thanks xxx

I bought something from him several years ago, no problems at all, like others I have noticed that he has pulled loads of auctions!! This isn't a new thing for him, I was bidding on the signed girl with balloon over a year ago and suddenly he pulled it, didn't answer any emails and then resurfaced with a change of user name, think he was called the prince or something back then!? Why would anyone with a 'good' reputation on ebay keep changing their name? All a bit weird IMO!!

POW Update on Ebay Fraud, by damullae on Sept 28, 2007 15:25:08 GMT 1, It seems that the extent of their investigation is emailing employees and asking "did you do this?" and when they responded "no" they were done. just kidding To me it just looks like an internal problem/mistake that POW will sort out ;D
very good of you to be in their defense silky, my opinion, and only an opinion as I dont know a lot... is that this wasnt mearly an error or mistake in numbering.....
I personally believe that far more occured..
I have met with people at POW in the past and whilst they openly say that they are not a professional printing outfit and never expected things to get so big i don't think it is possible to accidently mis-number a print... especially when (as they claim) they keep ownership records.
Like any busines, when things grow a more professional approach is required, especially when some (whether right or wrong) are trusting POW and investing in artworks - origionals and prints.
In my humble opinion this was selling non-edition prints at limited print run prices....
If I worked there it would be very tempting... but if you get greedy you get caught out.
I dont however work there and believe the integrity of print runs of of utmost importance and wont therefore defend them...

POW Update on Ebay Fraud, by butterfly on Sept 28, 2007 16:12:40 GMT 1, if there was no problem why do they want the owners of those prints to contact them? tis all a pr game- on both sides. i'm sure it's nothing- bit confusing- but everything should be taken with a pinch of salt.
To me this is a PR stunt to self promote POW ( or LAZ) to a wider audience, as they do not want anyone new to get prints outside of them ( like Ebay or through any other print agency)
It's interestingly funny how the article describes the entire process ' When POW releases a new print, existing clients are notified by email in advance. Buyers purchase works directly through the POW website and receive an email confirming that they are the registered owner of the print in question. ' ...
...When offered a Banksy print for sale, Mr Andipa says he asks for “the original invoice from Pictures on Walls or the gallery where it was bought; proof of payment (for example, a credit card statement showing payment for the art) and an email or certificate from POW or Lazinc [Steve Lazarides’s gallery] confirming that the seller is the registered owner of the print. We turn away eight out of ten Banksy prints offered to us even though most are probably genuine. I have looked at hundreds of examples of Banksy’s signature. Some of the ones on eBay are ridiculous.”

POW Update on Ebay Fraud, by keysersoze on Sept 28, 2007 17:36:28 GMT 1, Anyone else find POW's official annoucement almost insulting? Kind of a complete brush-off "we knew about this problem - but don't worry about it."
Quite a quick investigation for such a serious matter. I doubt those are the only prints/edition numbers that have issues. Also quite reckless to try to smear Steph/StellaDore.

POW Update on Ebay Fraud, by ptron on Sept 28, 2007 17:59:28 GMT 1, In the interest of 'transparency' I ask that POW answer the following general questions about their operation:
1) Typically, how many over run prints are made for each edition?
2) For a signed edition are these over run prints kept signed or unsigned?
3) How long are the over run prints kept? If more than 3 months, why?
4) Does POW have a consistent location for embossing, e.g. right side for signed, left for unsigned?
I think I know the answer to all these questions, and they answers don't make me too comfortable, but I'd love to hear from POW on this.

POW Update on Ebay Fraud, by ptron on Sept 28, 2007 18:20:00 GMT 1, Actually what scares me more is the following scenario. Unscrupulous Mr. Asshole buys signed print from POW. Then buys many unsigned prints of the same piece from ebay or forum members. Changes edition number on unsigned prints to match signed one, forges signature and starts selling them on ebay.
