Martin Whatson • Early Stencil Art, by Daniel Silk on Jul 7, 2008 12:47:18 GMT 1, I think a Whatson UK solo show would go down well ;D Galleries! I happen to agree a Whatson show would go down very well...
I think its a bit of a disadvantage for Artists like Whatson and Dolk not being based in the UK especially when I would guess most of their custom comes from here so It would be great to have a few solo shows for Artists like that over here ;D

Martin Whatson • Early Stencil Art, by form01 on Jul 7, 2008 14:18:08 GMT 1, Haha. Thanks! But sad to dissapoint you, its not live trace dmandpenfold: It took me about 50 hours to cut! Pain in the ass, but worth it when you see the finished result. Thanks GVD & Rourke.!! Im happy to recieve chritisim, as long as it is constructive!! Peace.
Ok sorry............ it looks to much like live trace for me and its more about Technique than substance.
But I do take my hat off to your stencil work.
Peace.

The portraits are superb as well.
While I marvel at the details in your work, the one piece that really stands out for me here, is the Erykah Badu portrait. Because the limitation of colour/tone, lends real mood to the piece and manages to negate the super-detail effect...With her smile, the piece feels very warm. Much like Jef A's work (which I love). When I get a portrait commission done, I will think about contacting you, for sure. A real challenge with the the building works is, how to get real feeling/mood into them. That piece for Edge is great because of the perspective, shading and background colours! Keep up the great work!

I too echo what Whizzer and Chips says above. Martin is a great guy to buy from. I think the tops pieces not only have a Walker feel but also Jeff Aerosol (minus the arrow). Really like these Whatson, well done.

Martin Whatson • Early Stencil Art, by G-Man on Nov 5, 2008 22:57:51 GMT 1, Hey Whatson
I really like the AP of the image i think that the paint splat looks a lot better when multiple colours, I'm not so keen on the single colour ones they lack depth IMHO
Also I prefer the guy in the print ad as he looks more of a stncil less of an image if you know what I mean!!??
Cool stuff

Martin Whatson • Early Stencil Art, by Heavyconsumer on Nov 6, 2008 4:53:41 GMT 1, The one I like most of these is the multi-coloured AP. Nice to see some humour/meaning coming into some of your images. I'm sure a lot of the other work probably has deeper meaning for you, as the artist, but there's some very clear humour in this image and it's cool! Goes quite well with Jef A's thread on the other board, perhaps you should post an image in there!?
