Adam Neate in Independent today, by Existencil on Sept 23, 2007 21:47:33 GMT 1, Frankie - are you talking about Matt Small. His portrait stuff comes pretty close as far as I'm concerned.
I can't believe you guys are comparing Neate to these other artists. Neate has dragged the street world into the contemporary fine art field & is actually making it look easy. His confidence with lines & the strength of his shapes is out of this world. At the moment, he is the only one that I can imagine my kids looking at in 30 years & thinking 'wow, this is the shit'. You can put him up there with Bacon & even Picasso - something you can't do with the others...

Adam Neate in Independent today, by guest2 on Sept 23, 2007 21:48:58 GMT 1, Who do you put on his level stuey in this scene of ours? As if you didn't know Frankie Can't discount the obvious Banksy and Micallef, but there are plenty of others such as Swoon, Supine, Bast, DFace even. Christ there are loads of very talented artists out there which is why I believe it is unfair to assert Neate is in a league of his own. Only my opinion, mind
Banksy of course, when did Micallef paint on the street? He's in this scene by the back door! Yes I am a fan but still Neate is the true street artist, Love supine, don't compete, Bast? Not even close! Swoon is fantastic and deserves to be up there and her technique is awesome but still, no way does the best swoon take pride over place a near perfect Neate. That leaves D*Face, a trooper and he'll always be up there and is a legend in the scene but again, you can't compare a cliche to an arms out stretched.
He's the best for sure, plus you can see his work in a gallery where should you want to swing a cat you can

No, I know it wasn't Frankie that negged me. Would love to know who it was though, but I suspect they find it easier to just press the - button rather than argue a rational point.

Adam Neate in Independent today, by mose on Sept 23, 2007 21:57:04 GMT 1, Who do you put on his level? I honestly can't think of anyone. Apart from banksy for completely different reasons I know no other artist who excites me in the way he does. His top gallery pieces are incredible. Plus he's a true street artist in every sense of the word. Who comes close let alone on his level? There is one artist I've seen recently that I get that same feeling with like I do viewing Neates work but thats it. I'd honestly like to find more so please post away the names of all artists.
Frankie, I find several you already sell to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Neate, producing the great work of the current scene. Review your stock list

Never wanted to big him up too much until I got own one safe and sound, not that I'd make too much of a difference Oh, and I sold A choe to get him and I'm selling one of my prised Parlas to fund the Neate! So yes, it's all about opinions but I'd sell off half of my collection for the real deal!....and as always I put my money where my mouth.

Adam Neate in Independent today, by doughy on Sept 23, 2007 22:31:13 GMT 1, I get the feeling that "level" for some means how big they are and how much money they will make, and for others how technical and expressive an artist is,and how damn good they are.
I admire Swoon's work, along with Xenz and Matt Small, but they are just as good as anyone else, but perhaps just in my eyes. And all this artist are quite different in style.
An artist or a piece is only as good as you feel it is or they are.
Neate, Micallef & Banksy are the "bels de jour", they will be others in the future who may surpass them is terms of stardom & acclaim.

I agree, it's all about opinions. But in my opinion, Neate is the man and I wanted one bad when they were alot cheaper too but made bad mistake but shit happens But now you've mentioned money, I think he'll command more than the lot of them... he could even overtake Banksys prices At least he is the one pwerson that could for sure. But yes Doughy, I agree with your comments. I have a great couple of pictures my kids did and they are priceless.

for me the portraits are shit. paul's picture is mega but taken out of context ie. not having paul standing in front of it, it kind of loses it's impact. i don't know adam personally but i'm sure only those that do really appreciate the protraits fully, the rest is all about exclusivity. his best pieces are paved with gold and the deep end for me, they leave so much more than they take. classic, timeless works of art. for me.

AMEN! +1
I don't really characterize Adam Neate as a 'street artist' - more contemporary fine art. The only reason he gets clumped into this category is that early on he left his works on the street bc he had no where to put them (makes enough sense to me).
And I agree with Frankie - think Neate has the potential to blow Banksy & Micallef out of the water with regards to prices attained at auction and the nod of approval from museum curators.

The wife woke me up this morning saying she doesn't like the WSP, thinks it's a bit scary. Anyone got any Vettriano or Rolf Harris prints they'd swap?!!
