Upfest • Street Art Graffiti Festival , by UpFest on Jun 8, 2009 23:31:16 GMT 1, IMO I thought this year was not as good as last years upfest think the organizers got it all wrong trying to get as many artists as possible (if thats what you could call half of them) defiantly going for quantity not quality. Allot of the stuff i saw at the weekend was wank. Too many artists too spreed out with no quality control. That said there was some talent there and some nice work just had to hunt for it.
Hey Pro,
Appreciate all feedback, and agree it was too spread out especially with the the way the weather was, think next year will try and stick with one maybe two larger venues closer together. And also make it a full weekend so eveyone can make the most of it....
Disagree that most of the work was 'wank', all the artists stepped up to the challange, and more importantly those that need developing got to learn from other masters of their particular field. Due to my own personal experiences, Upfest has always had and always will have an open door policy to allow all levels of abaility to come and give it a go and make some wicked friends in the meantime. I had the most stressful day of my life, but looking back now I would do it all again. Getting the oppertunity to watch both Guy Denning create an awesome piece, and two minutes later seeing the biggest grin on 13 yo stencilist face cos he was loved being involved so much... well I think my passion for this event speaks for itself, hope you'll still make it next year....
Steve

Wish i could have seen it in person . Great vid clip of him working with the said song as a soundtrack here artbleat.blogspot.com/2009/05/guy-denning-red-propeller-25-print.html.

Totally agree with you Steve, I know I certainly picked up some great tips from the artist both painting near me and those that I stood and watched/chatted to.

Steve,
Whilst Pro is of course entitled to his opinion, I suspect his view is very much in the minority. You only have to read this thread to know that for a fact. From a non artists perspective, I felt privelidged to see so many artists paint, and to be able to chat to so many of them was great. I disagree with pro's assessment of the quality of the work, but each to their own. Great event, enjoyed by vst majority, if the posts here, and the smiles on eveyones faces there are to be believed.
Cheers mate c

Upfest • Street Art Graffiti Festival , by origo on Jun 9, 2009 7:39:04 GMT 1, Being in Copenhagen it´s a bit difficult for me going to see it, but I must say that I think there´s a lot of quality work here. In fact I was really surprised with the level of work here, it´s must have been one hell of a day for everyone involved and that´s what it´s all about.
A 13 year old being able to play along just makes the even so much better I think, more power to it.
Personally I found DOC´s piece amazing, but a lot of great pieces in general.

Upfest • Street Art Graffiti Festival , by Agent Provocateur on Jun 9, 2009 13:14:14 GMT 1, An absolutely cracking weekend, and a massive thanks to Steve, Kim and the Upfest crew for all their hard work... and managing to stay sane whilst dealing with the elements!
On a more light hearted note, for some strange reason both last year and this year my hands came in for some close scrutiny... whether it's saying something about the quality of work I'm painting I'm not sure!
Last year I had a women taking close up pics of me elastic bands for over an hour... which amused Matty (the guy I was painting next to) no end! And it was the first thing he reminded me off when we met this year, cheers mate! Then this year I had one women ask for a photo of them when I was painting... and a another photo was requested in the bar!!!!
Maybe I should stop painting and just spray me hands as they seem more interesting And here's the photo from this year to make your own minds up...
Thanks to Daisy Plomo on Flickr for letting me use the image www.flickr.com/photos/daisydpix/
