Introducing....

Louis Michel aka Masai - Humanimaltation, (human-animal-mutation). Presenting ways to juxtapose humans, the so called ‘super being’ with beasts is something that allows for the viewer to become overwhelmed with identity issues and comical references. Familiar with the idea of this mutation as a possibility, artists have been figuring out ways to express this phenomena since the dawn of art on cave walls, ‘teriantrops’ as they have been referred to is the basis of Humanimaltation. We find it strange that creatures of the beast kingdom should become interested in human treasures and postures. Have humans forgotten that they were founded amongst the animal kingdom, with the beasts. My images explore the identity crisis that humans have with everyday life from hierarchal status to satire parody. My mark making mediums include anything I can get my hands on; House paint, acrylics, oil, Spray-paint, brushes, fine tip pens, Indian ink, Japanese calligraphy pens. Vintage frames, found wood, general house junk, vintage leather suitcases, clothes, vintage photographs are amongst my many materials. My process includes layering, montaging, Rummaging, street pasting, gallery hanging. I was born a Leo dog in the shire of Salisbury England. I have spent extensive time in jungles, now in the urban jungle London. My art is a way of making the world know I’m here and I’m having the best time of my life creating illustrations’ of fine-art, street art crossovers, I’m a visual artist and embracing my passion.

Nigel Oddy - Having created artwork for a certain unnameable graffiti artist, helped fabricate an enormous tribute to Dante's Inferno at the London 2010 Frieze and long term collaborator of Nick Walker Inspired by the work of French abstract painter Annick Gendron and the pioneering special effects of Douglas Trumbull whose pigment explosions and stargate sequence opened the minds of late 60's movie goers to Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Oddesy. Using Japanese enamels, waves of disintegrating particles create striations that wax & wane and open fissures of colours from complex layers.

Europe’s largest free urban paint festival; Upfest, is now in its fourth year and is preparing to take over its cultural home Bristol by welcoming over 250 artists and 40 DJs, Groups & Human Beatboxers to the event this summer between 4th and 5th June 2011.

‘The Urban Paint Festival’ is now firmly established as the main event for street art in Europe. The two day explosion of events attracts urban artists from all over the world who flock to The Tobacco Factory - the festival’s birthplace, as well as a number of locations across the city.

Big names in national street art culture Don, Inkie and Spqr set up their temporary home alongside home grown talents Cheo, Jody and Lokey.

Upfest partner Stephen Hayles explains why this has become such an integral part of the UK graffiti scene:

“Bristol is established as the home of graffiti in the UK; the whole country and now even the world has attributed this to the City. We are proud to be a part of this movement and will continue to provide a platform for brand new artists to break onto the UK urban art scene. The fact that it’s free just makes it even more exciting.”

We can confirm that HERAKUT - JAGO - CASE will be painting live at Upfest'11!

The festival helps raise funds and more importantly awareness for the Bristol based charity NACOA who work to address the problems children have growing up in families where one or both parents suffer from alcoholism. Upfest is a completely volunteer led festival and has so far raised £15,000 for the charity.
