Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by mishco on Nov 24, 2008 23:43:04 GMT 1, TOPBOY explain the difference btw this mates experience and mine? POW have now wised-up since that print release and are now on to people who buy more than one print for whatever reason. Don't shoot the messenger Bigwilly
not taking sides here but does pow not state 1 print per household, not 'no more than 1 print to be bought per ip or computer'..
i have bought prints for others on a couple of occasions and what goes around comes around and all that, have been lucky enough to have a mate call me up and take my details to put pieces through for me before. as it happens i was in the middle of a forest at the time and would have had no chance of purchasing otherwise. and yes it's up on my wall as well... loads of my buddies collect art and sometimes the only chance you'll get of acquiring a new piece is with the help of them and vice versa.
what's wrong with helping someone else out if it's totally legit.

I don't make the rules do i? There is nothing wrong with helping someone out legit or not, the rules are they to stop flippers and alike from taking the piss and buying all the prints and leaving nothing left for people who want to buy the print and enjoy it on their wall.

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by disorganisation on Nov 25, 2008 0:36:44 GMT 1, If you read the other thread and post by Skylarkin I believe there is a very plausible theory as to how so many print numbers were duplicated leading to all the refunds and how prints went missing from peoples baskets. This is extremely worrying if it turns out to be be the case.

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by ecb on Nov 25, 2008 4:50:16 GMT 1, I thought you mate tried to get you a Nola print while he had two browsers open on one PC and he was getting one for himself, I.E he was trying to buy two prints
This seems have to have been blown out of proportion and people have filled in gaps and speculated with what they want to believe. Here is the truth.
Wednesday night I had one of those silly thoughts that go through you every now and then. The thought was "There will be a new Banksy print coming out tomorrow". I literally laughed to myself and blew it off as one of those silly, unfounded thoughts.
I woke up Thursday and checked my email to see from POW that a new Banksy was being released. I emailed BigWillie, then went to work. For those wondering our connection, we update each other on release info. I didnt hear back from him so I text him. When the print dropped, I had still not heard from him. I had 2 browsers open, IE and FF alternating F5'ing. I have heard horror stories about Banksy sales and was hedging against one of those 2 browsers timing out. On one of the refreshes, I saw the Nola image, flipped to the other browser and F5'd that one, went back to the one that loaded first and clicked Add to Cart. Switched to the 2nd browser and clicked Add to Cart. Went back to the first browser and started, and completed the Checkout process. I stood up and did a dance of excitement and happiness. Then, I checked my email and printed out my POW and protx confirmations.
I then went to the PhishPosters.com site, saw that people said it was sold out, went to my 2nd browser and saw I had 1 item in my cart so I posted on PhishPosters.com that I would offer to help in any way and that I had 1 in my cart. Some very short period of time (say 5-10 seconds) after that post, Bigwillie called and I told him about the Banksy print/drop and he told me his internet wasn't getting set up until later that day (he had moved last week). I said I still have one in my cart, and that if he wanted, he could give me his cc info and I would buy it for him. I had no direct intentions of helping him that morning before I bought my print. Nor did I have any intentions of buying 2 prints. All of this is documented in real time on phishposters.com if u want to check. I did the checkout process for him but his card was declined 3 times.
Man that was a mouthful, but that is action for action what happened. After the 3rd declining of his card, it kicked me out of protx and back to POW. I checked my cart and it was empty. Other than hedging against having one of my browsers timeout, it was pure luck, circumstance, whatever you want to call it, that I tried helping him. Flimby was the 1st to PM me from PP.com and he would have been the person I had done this for. I have PM's from that exchange too. It's a shame someone couldn't have checked out and scored this Nola in my 2nd cart, print number 186 or 189. It is what it is, but so the speculators and nay sayers can get the full story, there it is.

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by dmandpenfold on Nov 25, 2008 11:26:19 GMT 1, To be fair POW have added prints at random times. 4am Morons anyone. Morons was on Thursday late morning if i recall - I was at my desk - doing exactly that Banksy Festival youtube video - literally s**t the pants off the people in my office when my B&W Morons, dropped out of my basket
Morons was about 9.00 - 9.30pm EST in the USA, so about 3 am in the UK, i can remember clearly as i had just got back into my hotel after a meal and decided to check out the POW site. The signed were up for about 1/2 - 1 hour and the unsigned up for much longer. I phoned / texted a bunch of people on the forum to wake them up to alert them, some made it some didnt. If i had the inclination, enough credit cards and fake addresses that day i could have been a wealthy man off the back of a bunch of Morons ebay sales. But i didnt and i am not.
Similar to mishco and ecb, i managed to put two trolleys into shopping carts, 1 signed, 1 unsigned using two browsers to try and make sure i had the best chance on the F5 bunfight. I kept the signed and offered CBL the unsigned which he happily accepted having missed both releases, he gave his cc details and address over the phone and i typed it in. He got his print, i got mine, all from the same IP address and same computer, just different browsers.
Hopefully one day someone will do the same for me

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by goffy on Nov 25, 2008 14:02:52 GMT 1, It is a bit of a bummer to think that during a Banksy release that you are not guaranteed to get it even if you add it to cart, pay for it, get two receipts, all to end up with a refund a couple of days later. I hope they sort it out soon for everyone's sake.

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by Deleted on Nov 25, 2008 14:22:09 GMT 1, I thought you mate tried to get you a Nola print while he had two browsers open on one PC and he was getting one for himself, I.E he was trying to buy two prints This seems have to have been blown out of proportion and people have filled in gaps and speculated with what they want to believe. It is what it is, but so the speculators and nay sayers can get the full story, there it is.
great story tell it to POW you never know

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by Deleted on Nov 25, 2008 14:24:03 GMT 1,
well they have stated what is going to be done, to my knowledge no-one has actually recieved conformation via email if they were refunded thursday that they are getting a friday resale refund print. in fairness POW sorted out the problems with colour trolleys quite quickly. so hopefully 'the refunded' will be contacted shortly to repay.

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by Ruggs on Nov 25, 2008 14:37:33 GMT 1, As i've already pointed out in an earlier post and I don't mean to harp on about it, but I still believe the Faile FairQ type system could be tested with another POW release, not necessarily a Banksy, but something very popular. They make an online application form available for a short time for you to fill in โ One application per mailing list member only! You send it back. They (POW) select winners at random. You are then e-mailed with winning confirmation and a payment attachment. Hey Presto! No fuss, no bother, no multiple print buyers, no recriminations etc. Okay! You won't stop the flippers. I don't think you ever can.

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by lello on Nov 25, 2008 14:56:51 GMT 1, Banksy X POW could probably crash Fairq as well...
Ive never got a print from fairq or BRP but for some reason i have from POW. No tricks, just at work F5ing...
Im still worried about this release however as i havent heard anything to date apart from my confirmation emails and the cash that is still out of my account.

Banksy NOLA Print on POW, by Daniel Silk on Nov 25, 2008 14:57:03 GMT 1, Bump for today
Official statement from POW regarding the release:
We would like to apologise to the people who received a refund on Thursday. Our database was overwhelmed with people adding to basket at exactly the same time & a small number of prints were allocated twice. The small number of prints that became available on Friday were related to something else & clearly those prints should never have been made available. As a result all of those orders on Friday have now been refunded. We extend our apologies to those customers as well. We have been able to to re-allocate all the prints from Friday's refunds & prints destined for Ebay sellers to customers who were refunded on Thursday. We hope to cover all the people who were refunded Thursday but if we don't they will be offered the opportunity to buy a Banksy print in the future. We thank you for your continued support & understanding. Best regards Simon@picturesonwalls.com
