Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by invader75 on Aug 25, 2009 20:17:29 GMT 1, Thinking of going tomorrow. Was going to hit it early but after reading some comments I think I may give it a miss!!
Has anyone tried leaving it late and getting in quicker? I'm thinking mid-late afternoon as there's a late opening tomorrow.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by rosstierney on Aug 25, 2009 21:21:14 GMT 1, if anyone's planning to go before it closes on the 31st, i'd advise you to get there @ 08:00-8:30. if you can't make it at that time, i wouldn't bother. no matter what, you've got a 2-3 hour minimum wait so be prepared. we're talking waterproof jackets, fold away stools, reading material, music etc. any later & you're looking @ 3-6 hours depending. there didn't seem to be a problem with leaving the queue for food/drink either. leave the camera @ home. it's just too busy & people have already done the job for you/better than you don't let the crowd surrounding the studio mock up put you off. patience will get you to the front & trust me, it's worth the wait. a few pieces have been moved about & as far as i could see, the case of di-faced tenner's have been removed completely?
my journey went a little something like this: woke @ 04:30, on the motorway for 05:30, 200 miles later arrived @ 08:15, queued till 11:00, in the show till 13:00-14:00, went for food, forgot where i parked so walked around for 40 minutes! drove 50 miles before nearly falling asleep @ the wheel so slept @ a service station for 2 hours before arriving home sweet home @ 20:15.

probably not because it's open late of a wednesday but i'm pretty sure you'll have to queue for 3-6 hours

I will call them before i leave just to check, fingers crossed. I hate queues, i feel compelled to speak to the pepole next to me in the queue.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by dzjiezes on Aug 26, 2009 9:09:26 GMT 1, Banksy... Bristol... Bloody Brilliant !
Got home last night (Brussels) after two brilliant days in Bristol. Took the Eurotunnel last Sunday evening and arrived in Bristol at about 10 pm. Was a bit of a search to find the hotel but we were happy when we drove past the museum... We knew where we had to be a few hours later. Anyways, hotel was so and so, but we didn't care as we were there for Banksy and not for luxurious hotels
Slept really bad, nerves I guess... woke up about 4-5 times during night. At 6.20 am, decided it was time to shower and get ready. Normally, I'm not the morning type of a person, but Monday morning seemed an exception. I was sharp as a knife. We left the hotel at 7am, got to the museum at 7.15 and there were about 40 people waiting, sitting on the floor... Sipping coffees, reading books etc. Everyone seemed excited, I had goosebumps. Last time I felt like that must have been ages ago; you know the feeling the night before Santa Claus comes and you're dead excited. You know something is gonna happen but you just don't know what exact? My missus was having a laugh 'cos there I was; happy as ever 'cos I had to wake up at 6 and had a few hours queuing ahead.
The wait was ok. The guy who sells The Big Issue was great. Big Jamaican Rastafari kind of guy "no worries mista, sun will shine todeeeey". Left the queue a few times (Pret a manger is cool) and saw how it grew to dramatic proportions. Museum staff decided to open at 9.30 and off we went.
As most of the people, I had seen many pics and clips about the museum, so I kinda knew what to expect. Still, it blew me away. Going to musea is always an individual experience, but here everyone seemed to be on the same wavelenght. Laughs, people in awe (the Parliament painting is brilliant in real) and people wondering if that little thing was a Banksy or not.
The fun part to me was the search for Banksy stuff in the nature, archeology "department". I think many people just didn't know there was some stuff there as well. Ok, it wasn't that much but to me these things were like little surprises and fun to search for. I spoke to one of the museum staff and the guy said Banksy keeps on moving stuff, replacing things etc. Don't know if he does it frequently or not but still; I couldn't find the rat with spraycan which was supposed to be somewhere in the "british wildlife section".
Never felt too busy in the museum although I really wanted to re-enter the first room (where parliament, his studio and other stuff is) but didn't want to queue for another few minutes. That room was actually the only one where it felt crowded. There's just soooo much to see and take pictures of.
The animatronics seemed to work all fine, the copper near the ice cream van was the only thing that didn't work. Cops need a break too, I guess.
After just over 2 and a half hours inside, we left with big smile on our faces. We strolled through the city (checked out a few of his works) and that was it.
It was bloody brilliant !

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by ricobenfico on Aug 26, 2009 21:38:35 GMT 1, Gulp! I'm heading down from Edinburgh after work on Friday with a stop over in Birmingham. Then driving down to the show early on Sat morning. Sounds like we need to be in the queue by 8am (or earlier if possible I know). As someone said above, it would be easy to be put off by the queues but this can't be missed.
Any other forum members going this Sat that wanna swap numbers if you end up higher up the queue than I do?!?! Vice versa obviously!

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by invader75 on Aug 26, 2009 22:46:24 GMT 1, I went there today. Saw the queue and fooked it right off. No artist is worth waiting in line for 6 hours standing next to OAP's, middle aged women and tourists. It seems Mr Bansky has sold right out. FAIL

there are bound to be tourists ! It ain't just people from Bristol who go, that's right. I don't understand why an artist is "selling out" if tourists or "middle aged women" do want to check out his work. I think a lot of people just want to check out what all "the fuss" is about. Yeah, there are bound to be people who aren't as big a fan as you may be, but hey they didn't care to wait 4-5 or even 6 hours so I think they are pretty fanatic as well
peace

you weren't the tit standing next to the line pissing and moaning to the woman he was with that he'll be proud not to have seen the banksy show as it's no way worth a wait in such a long like were you?
