The rest of the city were down at the harbour festival though...
Next weekend might be a good time to go because of the balloon festival to occupy some of the people who would otherwise pop in.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by atomone on Aug 5, 2009 10:55:37 GMT 1, I went 2 weekends ago and arrived at 10:30am on the Sunday, and was told there was a minimum 4 hour wait...it took just over 2 hours to get in but it was raining and so people were dropping out. The security did say that everyday from now on will be approximately a 2 hour wait up until the show ends! Have to say it was well worth the train Journey from London and the rainy 2 hour wait! Best show I have ever seen!!

The train is only about 1h 45m from Lon - Bristol so why don't you just jump on a train to Bristol that night, stay the night in Bristol and have a lye in.
Otherwise just get a National Express bus from the airport (esp. if it's Heathrow) straight to Bristol as it'll take you over an hour to get to Paddington from Heathrow anyway (not much less than a bus to Brizzle).
By the way, the train is direct if you go with your original plan. Bear in mind that trains between something like 6-9 are very expensive on a weekday as it's rush hour (another reason to go the night before).

There is a train that runs from Gatwick to Reading from where you can catch another train to Temple Meads although it does depend on the time you get in to Gatwick.
Temple Meads is about a 20 min walk to the museum.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by Bram on Aug 5, 2009 21:07:48 GMT 1, Just got back from the exhibition. The queue was 2 and a half hours but worth every minute.
There are loads of warnings about the last entry being 4:30 and the museum closing at 5 but we came out at 5:00pm and they were still letting people in. Despite the 3hrs drive, 2 1/2 hrs queueing and 3 1/2 hours back, it was still a great day!!!

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by trowel on Aug 5, 2009 23:17:52 GMT 1, The museum already has their next exhibition lined up to start in early Sept, so unless they do something like scale Banksy down to a single room, it ends when it ends. You'd hope they have some sort of contingency plan, like keeping some of the work on permanently. But let's not forget it'd cost them.

Yeah, I should think at least a few will stay on display there permanetly Its good for Banksy and good for the Museum.

Jantalb, check out the following websites to see whether the trip is possible:
www.thetrainline.com (TRAIN)
www.nationalexpress.com (BUS)
It looks like a bus (national express) from Gatwick to Bristol goes via London and takes 5 hours so don't bother with that option!
You could get the Gatwick Express into Victoria and then a bus from Victoria to Bristol Uni (around a 3 hour trip plus Bristol Uni is very near the show)
Otherwise get a train to Reading and then another from Reading to Bristol Temple Meads.
Enjoy
