Nick Walker - EMPIRE STATE, by yapsey on Apr 7, 2009 13:29:12 GMT 1, ^true. the true market cost is obviously not ยฃ450 (or whatever these cost) so why should brp continue to sell it for that price well after the london art fair had finished it's ยฃ1250 on brp and ยฃ1100ish on ebay. I don't think that is an outrageous mark up for a gallery.
couldn't put it better myself

Nick Walker - EMPIRE STATE, by yapsey on Apr 7, 2009 13:34:52 GMT 1, no - they're saying that they can sell it at what ever they want. why complain? you can get one off the bay for a hundred or so less. they're selling it a market value (the reasoning behind them having a spare is a pointless discussion - we don't and probably will never know the ins and out). they could have sold these prints at this sort of price at the art fair, but they didn't - they kept the price low (and then one went on the bay for about 5g if i remember rightly).
they can sell what they want to sell at what ever price they desire - it sold almost immediately so somebody isn't complaining...

Nick Walker - EMPIRE STATE, by Deleted on Apr 7, 2009 13:40:35 GMT 1, you're right yapsey - they can do exactly what they like as can any gallery - I would add a note of caution, times are changing, the money is leaving this area, the longer galleries do things that many regard as oppotunistic the harder down the line it will be for that said gallery - now I'm not having a go at anyone purely putting in perspective activities that some may question

Nick Walker - EMPIRE STATE, by origo on Apr 7, 2009 13:41:01 GMT 1, So why is it that galleries like BRP sabotage eBay auctions, when itยดs a free market and you can sell your belongings at whatever price you feel like? I know there may be arguments like the prints havenยดt been delivered, etc. but I really donยดt see the big difference between this, and someone whoยดs selling on the bay.
Seems a bit like doublestandards to me...

well said
what is a flipper? Is it someone who purchased a print or painting who then wanted to sell it at profit? If so why would BRP or who they are selling it for wait months to sell it, as most pepole know the bigger profit for flippers is within the first week, well if you purchased late last year or this year. i would have liked BRP to sell it to me for cost, but they are selling it on the secondary market at the correct price (IMO) the proof is in the pudding, it seems that it has sold, so someone is happy.

I do not know the circumstances, just like the rest of you.

Nick Walker - EMPIRE STATE, by My Name is Frank on Apr 7, 2009 14:02:22 GMT 1, They really need to differentiate their secondary sales from their primary. Different website, name etc. Scandalous behaviour on the face of it selling something for triple its price. Hope Nick Walker is getting at least 50% or is calling up POW now to come back to a more transparent and less enraging gallery

Have to agree.
If they carry on like this I just think they will continue to taint their reputation.

Tread carefully people - if I got a 24 hour ban for comparing a TOX tag to a dog turd then who knows what punishment awaits the BRP bashers!

surely a thread like this gives brp feedback on the way they run their business?

Nick Walker - EMPIRE STATE, by andypandy on Apr 7, 2009 14:59:00 GMT 1, I wonder how many people who are having a go at BRP on this thread go along to all their shows and help themselves to the free beer
more to the point - some of the people that are having a pop at brp will have triggerfingers on f5 next time a walker release is on line and then straight on to ebay within minutes, never mind the free beer.
everyone has to eat right?
and the other point - if i were to have purchased a print from brp and then my circumstances changed and i had to sell but felt uncomfortable with ebay, would it be unacceptable of me to contact the gallery to explain and then ask if they could sell it for me? By the time they have paid their taxes, vat etc etc and the actual consignee, they probably end up about with 10% profit right? Just another example of a possibilty.
I may be wrong but isnt everyone quick to jump on the negativity bandwagon all the time. For what its worth i have always found that brp have been helpful and accomodating and in an industry that is full of luvvies, arsekissers and arogance - that is few and far between.
p.s making a profit isnt a big deal - its called business.

He was phoning as he intended to put it on ebay. I offered to sell it for him and didnt expect him to sell at cost when he would get more elsewhere. I am sorry if some of you find this unforgivable but it is a decision I made and feel comfortable with. Totally understand that this is a business and is open to criticism and have no issues with that. Not keen on the idiot who said the Brp boys (especially since there is only me and sarah here) are selling pictures to fund a 'naught salt' habit. Its just a stupid idiotic comment that is really annoying and pathetic. totally unnecessary and unwarranted.

possibly a point worth mulling over, is making it clear where your actions are primary or secondary so as this confusion does not arise again
